After Boinicle opted to drop out of Premiership, the ETF2L admin team set out for an 8th team to complete and compete in Europe’s top division. After multiple teams with seemingly-better rosters opted to turn down the offer for various reasons, THE GAY JAIL rose to the challenge. With some players on the roster that were about to enter their first Division 1 season, challenge certainly looks to be an apt word, but the team also possesses players who already did their time in Premiership to guide these rookies, as well as close to 10,000 PUGs between them, so keep your eyes peeled for possibly some upsets.
Sprite is the one that played in the top-flight the most recently, as the Medic for the iteration of nerdRage that played under amppis’ command, finishing in 3rd place in Season 34 in what was his first ever Premiership season. Sprite had some big shoes to fill since he was replacing Connor, but never looked a step out of place. He probably benefited from some guidance by the more rugged players there, and as he moves from trainee to mentor, he will also take a more active role as the Demoman. Matthes is the only other player to have reached Prem playoffs, and just like Sprite, he did so in his debut season. He started out on the ill-fated MONGI MODE, but got picked by Faint Gaming EU when the former died, and reached 4th place with them during Season 32 as well as during Copenhagen Games 2019.
flick is one of the more unknown quantities of the team, recently playing in Division 3 with leg, winning a bronze medal alongside the rest of this limb lineup. He is always keen to learn more, or at the very least to put his name in the ̶h̶i̶s̶t̶o̶r̶y̶ ̶b̶o̶o̶k̶s̶ Liquipedia. Milky has 0 games on ETF2L, and only one season played (in Mid) before the Snap happened. He is however known under the name of xqq by the denizens of Badlands Spire, and is feared by them as an incredible MGE player. A literal nobody who got his place thanks to endless hard work and a desire to become the very best, he is a real-life anime protagonist and is surely looking towards the next step in his underdog story.
torrit was another player on the prematurely-defunct MONGI MODE, but did not manage to obtain additional Premiership experience since. He however has a large amount of High and Division 1 experience, notably playing for the redpandas.tf squad that finished in second place during Season 29, as well as being the original medic of Faint Gaming when they set foot in Europe for the first time in Season 30. Lupus will mark his return into the top level, a place he last visited with Wonderland back in Season 21. While he has not been able to return to the top ever since, he has kept himself sharp with many seasons in the divisions right below, as well as with a generous serving of pick-up games.
Matthes shed some light about the circumstances of this moveup, as well as his hopes for the coming season :
Our plan initially was definitely not to play prem, but alas torrit failed to sign us up in due time. We're gonna keep our goals reasonable, scrim hard vs d1 teams, sure up some of the more fundamental parts of our play and just hope we can score at least a few rounds in prem if not any maps
Trying to become the boss of their cell in a Close Supervision Centre, THE GAY JAIL is :
- Scout: flick
- Scout: Lupus
- Soldier: Milky
- Soldier: Matthes
- Demoman: Sprite
- Medic: torrit
