Look, can we just give up the whole "give one guy a ton of shit for no reason circle jerk" thing that happens here every so often? It happened to Getawhale, and now we all know he's a fine dude. Everyone gets pissy when there's a bunch of people giving them shit, it takes special people to not react in the face of that. Replace your statsummary.res with this: Backup your old one.
Should be in
custom\YOUR-HUD-NAME\resource\uiand put these in
\custom\YOUR-HUD-NAME\materials\vgui\replay\thumbnailsmake those sub folders if your hud doesn't have them.
Result is a completely light blue background matching the color of this gif sitting in the middle.

You need to add an entry to statsummary.res, I'll give more details when I get home if no one else helps you by then, but the idea is you need to get the gif you want, convert it into a .vtf and then tell your hud to use it in statsummary.res
In fact, this question has been answered in the stickied quick hud questions thread
