I guess Valve decided it was finally time to pull the plug on competitive TF2.
Oh well. It has been fun.

I guess Valve decided it was finally time to pull the plug on competitive TF2.
Oh well. It has been fun.
The secret is that they threw a game against rent-A-Homies to get third seed. Possibly to play against B4nny's team in the first match of LAN. It really isn't anything special.
ApolloftwESEA TF2 Lives on http://teamfortress.tv/forum/thread/16425-esea-s16-last-day-to-register/3#post-70
I think I'll wait for more concrete proof then some 3-line chat supposedly copied into a forum.
Shooter made it quite clear that they had certain goals, and that if they failed to meet said goals, it would be the end of the line.
They failed to meet those goals.
And... Who cares?
Are your eyes really that delicate that you can't stand the sight of two guys kissing?
Bye Competitive TF2.
Maybe we should all go to DOTA?
MuffinSoooo I decided to make an Open team at the last moment to help ~contribute-- but one of our team members is stuck on another team roster who needs him to stay to have 6. Halp ;~;
Grab someone from LFT?
RIP Competitive TF2.
2007-2013, times were great, times were good.
I'm glad you care. Too bad its too late.
PsychotropicBurnDLPsychotropicSnipWhy should they weather this season? Our community has told them to fuck off. That's the message we are sending, I would already have pulled the plug in their situation.
As a business decision. Limiting their client base hurts, no matter what people say about whether they do or do not turn a profit. It is in their best interest to preserve the gaming communities which they serve
This community is telling ESEA that they would rather go with a brand new league that has its own shady history then the league that has single-handedly keeping TF2 alive for 15 seasons.
PsychotropicI think some people are confusing systems thinking with personal motivation here. People are generally motivated with what is best for them, and consider less the impact it has on a system as a whole.
Here are some things I think are true:
An influx of beginner teams is important to the survival of competitive 6s. Aka an open environment.
A well broadcasted and exciting high level competitive division is important to popularize the game and attract new teams. Aka an invite division
Esea has provided both, historically.
Cevo now provides a satisfactory open division, and may provide the second type.
New and lower level teams appear to be favoring CEVO. Instead of telling them their motivations are wrong and ridiculous, we should try to understand why this is happening. Quindall suggests it is both cost and friendliness.
A LAN costs lots of money.
The bigger the player base, the more money available.
Esea has a bigger player base because the lan costs are shared with CS.
Money and LAN seems to incentivize high level play. Open teams seem to bring more money. What incentives open teams? An enjoyable game experience. That is literally the fuel at the core of this scene; lots of people love this game.
As long as people love the game, they will play. As long as enough love it, they will form teams and leagues.
If the game dies, it will be because the community moves on. No money, no league, nothing will be able to sustain it for more than a season or two if people don't care. Because the money is supported by the interest in the game.
In conclusion: the game will either die or it won't. Yes, certain ecosystems support its growth, but if it's going to die, you cannot stop it.
I, for one, don't think it will die.
I think Esea should weather this season in whatever way possible. If cevo is sustainable they don't stand a chance. But if, as many fear, cevo will die, they stand to make out well in s17.
And I think everyone should play where they think they'll have the best time. It will work itself out. The discussion is helpful! The personal attacks, less so
Why should they weather this season? Our community has told them to fuck off. That's the message we are sending, I would already have pulled the plug in their situation.
Goodbye TF2, 2007-2014, CEVOpocolypse.
money_bLook at EU tf2 with no lan other than the i series... The game isn't dead for them. Nor will it die anytime soon.
As long as people enjoy playing tf2, the game won't die. If you really need a LAN that badly to save the game, get involved with CEVO and help make it happen in due time. They already understand that LAN is the dealbreaker for higher level players and will work on it, given enough community support.
You can't expect the masses of open players to keep throwing money away at ESEA for shitty service, a shitty client, and shitty servers just to give the practically untouchable teams at the top of the pyramid a fun time at ESEA LAN every season. Not gonna happen.
Some people actually like playing this game, so before your pants are completely filled with shit, calm your tits, this scene won't die that easily.
They have the I-Series.
We don't.
I like CEVO, or rather I like the idea of CEVO, but right now it does not offer half of what ESEA does. If you have a CEVO team, please sign up for ESEA as well. Nobody is saying CEVO sucks, but until they actually have a LAN and different levels of play, it just isnt up to being a truly top tier league. If we let ESEA drop TF2, we are literally watching comp TF2 dying.
GrImpartialcevo to get pushed aside again like every other season ever...
Um...
The reason CEVO has never had much interest is because they have had problem after problem every season.
For some reason I loved this. Not competitive, but...
You know new player suddenly going into the halloween event is hilarious
