In my opinion books are awesome. Pick a book and work through it. I can suggest some if you know a language you want to focus on.
But I have played around with http://www.codecademy.com/ . It seems like a great place to get your "feet wet" as they say. :)

tablet + college?

Laptop!
Oh god. Do NOT get a tablet. I am a recent college graduate from a large university. Every one uses laptops in class. Furthermore, laptops are great for on-the-go projects or working on things on the bus or just while sitting in class. Tablets will not help you. Those things (in my opinion) are just used for surfing the web and using some awesome apps. Correct me if I am wrong.

I really like the map. Its nice/well balanced.
I think the only thing I dont like is the HP is near the walls and no matter what you will take splash if a soldier just spams that way while taking it.
But yeah, its really hard to heal the soldier if he is standing on the point. The heal beam breaks pretty easy.
I do like playing ring around the point though. Very easy to hide and dodge around.
