I'm still leaning towards the 660 though, because I might also get the Asus 144hz monitor with lightboost. Now I just need to find a way to make $1000. Also, I might be getting a job at a computer repair place soon, so I could maybe get discounts on some of this through work. Time to start saving....... UGH

bearodactylNo that one looks pretty solid, z77x ud3 and ud3h are great mobos, the only thing thats better is some other ones that are in the $130 range with good built in audio. Not sure how people make builds without the os... do they just torrent it? Maybe they just transfer it from their old computers•
Oh, and do you live near or can drive to a micro center? They have the 3570k on sale for $170-180 (believe its $175 but could be $170 or $180) and they have $50 off motherboards when you buy them with cpus. Sick deal. Also the 3770k is $230 there, so you could easily upgrade to that.

For gpu, if you buy at newegg you can find the 7850 for as cheap as even like $150-160 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131473) and it comes with free tomb raider and bioshock infinite.
Or to spend a litte bit more you can get a 7870 for $220 ish (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150604) still with those free games. Heck, if you sold the games you could probably get a 7950 for the same price :P

Another thing you can do is use an older case and cut out the optical drive, you really never use them anymore. I just have a usb one I use on all my computers (parents, brother, and my two)

I do live near a Microcenter, and a Fry's, if that matters. Is there a real difference between the PowerColor 7850 GPU and the HIS 7850 GPU? The mobo/processor deal is awesome. I will definitely look in to that. I'll prolly just cut the optical drive... Does it really matter if there's a hole in the case where the optical drive is supposed to be?

FogDMLTerraCould I get suggestions on how to lower the price of this build (http://pcpartpicker.com/user/DMLTerra/saved/1nx3) to <$750? I know it's a stretch. But, like I said above, I won't need it to run more GPU intensive games like Far Cry or Crysis, just TF2. And I'll have a separate computer for doing most general use stuff. Thanks for any help I get!Cut out the OS

EDIT: also change your motherboard to something on the cheaper side, you don't need a motherboard that expensive for a budget build

... How am I supposed to use the computer without an OS? And do you have any recommendations for a cheaper mobo that will still take full advantage of the 3570k?

for tf2, get an i5-3570k or 2500k instead of that one because they're unlocked and are just better. 7870 is good for other games like bf3, fc3, crysis and shit. if you want to play both at good frames just get a 7850 and you'll be fine. tbh if u want to keep the 7870 and either of the 2 processors i listed above just get the ssd later and a $50-$60 hard drive for now and use the money u saved for a better processor. the one u picked is good and all but theres no reason not to put in a couple dollars and get the better one.

Yeah, I really don't think I'll be playing many games outside of TF2... Or at least none that require really gpu power. So you'd recommend I upgrade to the 3570k processor and get a 7850? Or could I downgrade my gpu even more to maybe a 1GB card because I'm not going to play gpu intensive games and save even more $$$ (for maybe a 120 Hz monitor :D :D). I've also heard that the mobo I currently have selected wouldn't be able to overclock with the 3570k- is that true?

Here's what I was suggested via /r/buildapcforme. Do any of you more computer savvy people have recommendations on how to make it cheaper/more optimized for playing TF2? I think the video card is a bit expensive (at $229 O.O), but I don't really know whether it's necessary to get good performance. Thanks. Oh, and I know there's only 120 GB of memory (on the SSD), but I have a 500 GB laptop that I would use for most other stuff. I just thought that it would be good to get the SSD now and install the OS and TF2 and other games on that and maybe add a HDD later instead of getting a HDD with more memory and then having to transfer all of that to the SSD.

EDIT: I can't type.

#7 TF.TV DM whitelist in TF2 General Discussion
fosterFan of war isn't banned in esea and is a decent side-grade to the boston basher. It's annoying sure, but its very usable.

Oh, I didn't know that it wasn't whitelisted in ESEA. Nevermind then. I just don't like getting one-shotted by sollies after I've been hit with the fan-o-war right after spawning. :\ Oh well.
