The thermal paste solution makes sense. Usually, factory thermal paste blows. If you can still find it, pick up some OCZ Freeze; your temps will drop even more from the Arctic Silver (AS also has a long break-in period). I used OCZ freeze on my brother's Gateway FX-p7805u and fixed the overheating issues on the gpu and CPU because the default paste was so fucking terrible.

Good advice; a lot of people don't realize that thermal compound has terrible conductivity compared to metal-to-metal and that stock thermal compound is even worse.

PQL does a decent job of emulating CPMA, but it's not the same.

1) safe mode
2) uninstall drivers
3) run driversweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/content_page/guru3d_driver_sweeper.html) (it gets rid of ALL the nvidia drivers left over from an uninstall, so it's great)
4) delete all nvidia drivers
5) reinstall the drivers

Also, when you're done, what are the temperatures you're running on your video card, specifically your memory temps? Blowing the card out with some compressed air could help and should be done as a precaution. The GTX 4xx series are notorious for running hot, so that could be the problem.
