#41 quick poll regarding 'active servers' module/tab in Off Topic

You should do what TL does and instead of wasting server bandwidth refreshing them for everyone, have a refresh button on em so that users who are interested can look themselves if they've had it open. You dunno if people on their ends have shitternet either, so it would be the best option then.

and whoops forgot to mention, I already use them a ton but I would definitely love that tabs feature, although I think it would be cleaner if you customized that from the profile options page.

#4 Moving on to ESEA - Need some help in Q/A Help

he's right. ESEA is also a lot more competitive than UGC, and has a lot less teams who just quit out partway through. not really every team enters open ready to win it really, it's not a great mentality if you want to get better because you're just hyping yourself up for disappointment.

#130 Esea Client Mining Bitcoins in Off Topic

I don't know if anyone wrote this on their "league wishlist" but a NAtf2l would be something I would put high up there, saw it suggested elsewhere. CEVO is probably still a bad idea for multiple reasons, UGC will probably never consider a paid for higher level alternative, so I dunno. It seems like the best suitor to me, but I'm just a pretty mangirl with no husbando bidders. (hint NAtf2l thats etf2l with an NA)

The other, probably better option that everyone else already threw out is NATF2 but I mean, enigma already has done a really great job with the website. I can't expect him to do this without atleast getting some real qualified people to help. He's got a professional gamer lifestyle to stick to, y'know.

It really is illegal though, see here: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/110/hr1525/text

#138 ESEA Invite S14 in TF2 General Discussion
VortexESEA polls in general seem to be dumb. The community makes uninformed decisions based on other players (anyone remember cp_ashville?) and then the next season everyone complains about what we collectively voted on. If chill to good are the ones voted in and they end up going 2-14 I'm going to be upset.

i really like the idea of a cut-throat invite make or break between the top 2, i mean its a cool idea on paper that you have a popularity contest for invite but that could have some pretty long (8-week) repercussions.

BrohamThis is seriously fucked up, I'd love to see ESEA get in some deep shit but I defiantly would hate to TF2 fail as an E-Sport. In all honesty it would break my wee heart to see TF2 go down like that.

>defiantly
I don't know if it would fail as an E-Sport, but it's definitely a make or break thing. ESEA has an amazing north american following for FPS games that a lot of other E-sport leagues would love to pick up. The only thing left would be to see if someone would pick up TF2. I think it could even motivate some new TF2 leagues to get started and y'know, that wouldn't be half bad (prize pool size or not [unless it was prizeless]) considering ESEA is the only thing decent to higher level teams even consider dedicating themselves to and theres a whole lot of flaw with that when you consider, "Well, is TF2 ever gonna get big? Why doesn't anyone become a full-time FPS gamer?"

But yea, if no one came in fast, I'm afraid we would probably just drift into obscurity

#69 Esea Client Mining Bitcoins in Off Topic
turtsmcgurtswhat they should have done was add mining as an opt-in option and claim the money goes back to the league, but end up pocketing it. Add a little extra money into the pot, but it'd be difficult for people to prove that all of the money isn't going into the league. "oh, not many people are opting in" ect

edit: CS players are quite the angry bunch too, shortage of people calling each other "kid" though :p

well yeah, no joke for them. Bitcoin mining takes up almost 100% of your GPU and a lot of people in the CS scene use ESEA as a pugging solution so many of them leave the client open like a lot of you leave the IRC TF2 channels open all day. So very many of their GPUs got friend, and it isn't like the pricey ones don't shit out either after 15 days of 100% use. Thank god almost none of us use that client.

GreaverI don't think they should see jail time for this, but you cannot tell me they weren't aware of the consequences of what they were doing - and of course its the TF2 and CS communities will suffer if it all comes tumbling down.

Queue IT heads for a largish company somewhere mining away on workstations at night

it would have been one thing to have the clients mine and then leave that to be. But there were "updates" every single day that would basically sweep and collect whatever the GPUs had mined and sent them back to ESEA. Weren't aware is a huge understatement.

#81 New matchmaking site similar to Tf2lobby in TF2 General Discussion

Disregard people saying ELO integration is a bad idea for beginners. It isn't. It's a great start although I am not quite sure about a) making it public and b) allowing users to discriminate on it. Ranks are okay though. I've played enough multiplayer to know that ranks are a great driving force for people to encourage them to get better. Start at the bottom, head to the top.

And with a good ELO system you can allow automatic PUGs to occur with two volunteer "leaders" who will coach their team around and so on.
Maybe a practice matchmaking system, which will not effect your ELO and supports drop in and drop out per game as handled by a bot that detects an opening and places a searching player into it. I think drop in and drop out would be a HUGE feature because it would be the first step into integrating highlander and 6v6 into a pub scenario.
The competitive matchmaking system will differ in that leaving a game can hurt your rank and maybe restrict you from competitive games for a period of time. You can also introduce some other features, such as separate ranks depending on the class played and a global rank to take place in lobbies. Then these same ranks can be used for automatic tournaments, with some builtin stv that users can easily access.

Some other points
-Encouraging medic play somehow
-Having enough regular users to sport a decent ELO consistency
-Only allowing one account per IP to ensure one guy isn't fucking everyone over
-Encouraging users to use mumble, which will be a feat in itself if done
-Integrating some guide system would be a powerful tool.
-Around release, come around tf.tv and give out captain passes for people who volunteer (and then paying them with whatever spoils you get from the tournament system or w/e)
-Integrating some team matchmaking system too would be cool
-Make sure you only focus on the beginners, period. Once you reach the highest ranking (which shouldn't be hard if it's like UGC steel level) there should be some sort of nice post on how to get into the tf.tv thing and begin doing #tf2mix or finding an esea team or somethin.
-Work with some sort of solution to help with newbie mixes as well if it is at all possible.

Good work gents!
