#96 The ESEA abuse thread in TF2 General Discussion

I'm sorry, but I cannot believe that people are putting 10-20 hours a week playing a game with almost zero money all for going to a free vacation to Dallas of all places. And if that didn't exist, people wouldn't play the game anymore. Yes, there could be a couple but I don't think it's a "good amount of people"

Even if this is the case, I'm sorry that I have to say this, but then it may be for the better. Those people do not have the communities best interest at heart, they are only playing to get a free vacation. Sooner or later, the community will not have the money, or be unwilling to donate to get people to Dallas 3x a year. And under that logic, those people would quit.

Damn, wasted so much time thinking of a nice way to put it, I got beat to the punch

I really feel it's time to give up LAN. It's just no longer sustainable to fund 3X a year. Maybe once a year, but 3X a year is getting harder and harder.

I know people are going to frag me for this, but can someone actually make an argument on why it's completely necessary?

enigmaare you personally putting your life on hold to put in the hours required to build a viable alternative league in time for next season?

no?

anyone?

talk is great but no one in this thread has any appreciation for the tremendous amount of time it takes to do anything of significance

Shit, I wouldn't mind doing this, at all. While I am "at work" there is only about 2 hours of things to do, so I could be getting paid while working on it.

I personally am not a huge fan of UGC because of the lack of a client, servers, and a really poor setup for match comms/scheduling

At this point after ESEAs shit, I am fine without a client, it never really caught anyone. Even worse is when an owner says this when it comes to install an admin backdoor on peoples computers.

So you're just going to fail to mention the ESEA Monitoring Code?

"- The ESEA Monitoring Code monitored computer activity even
when end-users were not using ESEA services and the ESEA Software was not turned on. ESEA
concealed the ESEA Monitoring Code in the ESEA Software driver on end-users' computers.
ESEA also programed the ESEA Software to reload the ESEA Monitoring Code even if end-users attempted to "unload" the driver."

So basically, along with all the mining, you installed a backdoor onto the user's system that 1) we never got a statement on as to the removal of that and 2) is an absolute bitch to remove.

straight from the full statement http://nj.gov/oag/newsreleases13/E-Sports_Complaint_Consent-Judgment.pdf

LKplanes response

#31 expecting state officials to comprehend an anti-cheat client is... well, interesting

how exactly do you think the client catches cheaters?

Also, you guys/girls should read some of the stupid things that lkplane is saying here

A favorite thus far

#45 there's a lesson i hope no one reading this ever has to learn, because it's a disappointing one:

in the current us legal system, even when you're right, it's sometimes a smarter decision to simply write a check and walk away, as wrong as that sounds

#1 Starter or backup looking, any class in Recruitment (looking for team)

Tragic servers died after a couple people had some real life issues to deal with, so I guess I am looking for a team. I just RMA'ed my video card today since it was crashing often, so it maybe about a week before I get stable FPS again. I can play any class, nor do I mind playing any class. I can play anytime after 9ish est, Sunday-Thurs.

Going to reinstall windows today, so I may not be on until tomorrow.

Kinda makes me sad/annoyed that an employer can make you do something that is illegal and somehow you (the employee) gets sued too.

This is pretty interesting

Permanently enjoining Defendants Eric Thunberg and Sean Hunczak and their agents, employees, representatives, independent contractors and all other persons or entities directly under their control, from operating, managing or otherwise controlling any business activity within the State of New Jersey or directed to New Jersey consumers;

Too bad it's not directly part

SolidSpeerlaiyeTheecsDoes anyone know who was the rogue employee? You still believe that story? Do you really think a coder could just implement that into the client without ANYONE noticing? Okay.

No it's BS. It's right there on the court document

30. Defendant Hunczak developed and created the ESEA Bitcoin Mining Code. 31. Defendant Thunberg supervised Hunczak's activities, provided Hunczak with input, and authorized,Hunczak to use ESEA company time to develop, create, and test the ESEA Bitcoin Mining Code. 32. Defendant Hunczak later executed the ESEA Bitcoin Mining Code on end-users' computers via the ESEA Software to create the ESEA Botnet

Kinda surprising that since it was a criminal trial that zero time was given. Only a 350K fine that get out of jail seems pretty low to me.

Check out the terms that ESEA must adhere to

Has anyone played this yet? I received a beta test for it, but it's only for this weekend. I generally don't have time to play games over weekends, but I may make a little exception if it's good.

LOL, I guess the new drivers kick up the voltage on fermi cards and cause a lot of issues, including frying. If you have any fermi cards, downgrade ASAP.
