#34 best way to stop eating in Off Topic

If you're trying to eat less, make it a gradual process of eating foods that will get you fuller faster. Many health teachers that I've talked to have said that when you don't feel full or hungry, stop eating. By the time you feel full, you'd have already eat too much. Also taking a walk afterwards is great to let your food settle and digest better. But don't just decide to throw everything away because then your urge to eat more is going to grow on you, and you'll eventually fall back into your bad habits

That and a lot of other things that people have mentioned are helpful methods for just cutting down in general

#2747 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization

Apologies if the answer to this question has already been answered, but I'm wondering a few things

  • can I create 2 instances of a hud cross hair (more specifically knuckles crosses)?
  • if yes to the first question, how should I code it in my hudlayout.res file?
  • would the same properties with animating a hud crosshair stay the same when putting the code in the hudanimations file?

Thanks!

#37 How to make tf2 an esport in The Dumpster

I have a hard enough time watching/getting hyped over league and dota (given that i have little to no exposure to either of the games) how could 6s possibly be confusing? I can understand confusion with ubers and stuff like that but with tf2 being a class based first person shooter, and when the main point of games are to capture control points and the fights come down to what team is going to have at least one man standing to capture the points, and when at the top levels our casters do an exceptional job of keeping up with the action, it's hard to understand how changing a game to simply "esportify it" that's been developed through multiple years of changes along with changes to the classes itself is within logical thinking at all. You can make the example with CS that making teams 5 players each would make it easier to get people to worldwide events, but we've been doing this for quite a while now. And people usually know what they're doing when it comes to arrangements and things like that.

Stevie-Sponsors
-Recogntion as an actual competitive game
-More eSport organizations adopting teams
-More tournaments with larger prize pools
-Promotion of Competitive Game live streams on the menu

Stevie nailed what we need to become an esport. While I will agree that to someone that has no idea what is going on, it can be wierd looking at it. I've been trying to make some form of video guide that explains the basic flow and a few distinct elements that make 6v6 different than other class based shooters. While it's far from finished, the ideas have been set to make this guide to help any spectator understand our game.

#2 Any older players streaming when they have time? in Off Topic

I know ruwin still streams, but its a toss up if it's gonna be tf2 or not. There's also tagg, but that's about all I can think of off the top of my head

#166 Stabby talks class balance in TF2 General Discussion

Okay, so far we've established that:

  • there's a reason for the class composition
  • stabby didn't intend for this kind of backlash
  • pubber/trader mains wouldn't understand why 6v6 is set up the way it is because they play a different game than we do. Not that it's a bad thing, but the fact that they're (figuratively) using a granary stalemate situation to judge the entirety of 6v6 is quite silly

I also agree with the number of people that say that mm should have class limits at 2 (the only exception being 1 medic). Or at the very least to start, valve should put it at 3 so mm doesn't become known as "competitive pootis rush 2016" with 4-6 of just one class slowly marching their way from a forward spawn all the way to last

#129 Stabby talks class balance in TF2 General Discussion
stabbyThe class composition for 6's has seen 0 experimentation since the days of the format's inception. That's simply fact.

The primary reason why the class composition is how it is is based on the mobility of each class. Sure, you could throw a GRU heavy on the map in matchmaking with a disciplinary action soldier babysitting him as well, but are you going to get the same effect as a demo/soldier combo that can rapidly move around the map far better than a heavy? The reason why class composition doesn't work outside of the cookie cutter 6s classes is because any single class outside of the medic, demo, soldier, and scout can be easily countered by one of the standard classes. Pit a heavy on second and slowly push forward? A demo can counter that. Maybe a pyro to deny jumping soldiers? Have a scout focus him down since pyro has little counters against a scout that can keep his range. Engineer building stuff? Soldier/demo counters it. Spy lurking around? Have the medic watch his back as well as use splash damage to check for a spy. And depending on what class is being lost, a standard 6s team can work around that, using their superior mobility to take more ground. Spy using a gun? Have a scout/soldier focus him down where he was last. It makes the format more based on raw skill and teamwork rather than who can gimmick the other team the most (despite the NA/EU gimmicks meme that exists).

TL:DR - the class composition is the way it is because of mobility and how each class has one or more superior trait(s) that set it above a certain number of others. It's not because we have a "precious meta", it's because it's been tried and doesn't work. Don't believe me? Try it for yourself against equally players of equal skill level to yours.

#55 will TF2 have the same rebound as Smash Bros Melee in TF2 General Discussion
ShounicKonceptLegacy -snip-
Show me what you got :)

Here you go

It's far from done, and I've had near minimal time to polish the script itself due to classes and everything. Thoughts? I've also tried to make it as detailed as possible as what I'd imagine most of it to be

edit: just realized the link doesn't work. I'll get this fixed as soon as I can

#12 Regarding MM and new players in TF2 General Discussion

Coming from someone that has played ugc up to this point, it is rather intimidating thinking that you're going to be thrown into a big array of people and most likely get shit on while paying money for it. ugc's alternative is slightly similar with more divisions as well as the league being free, so when it's put in that light it's a little bit understandable why esea is very intimidating for newer players. I do plan on playing esea (hopefully) next season, but it's not really helping newer players when they ask for help and their only answer they get is "pay to play in a league that you'll get shit on and maybe you'll get better eventually"

#50 will TF2 have the same rebound as Smash Bros Melee in TF2 General Discussion

http://www.teamfortress.tv/30157/a-spectators-guide-to-comp-tf2-video-series

Haven't had any time at all to really put anything into this, and it's one thing that I'm really trying to get set forward as an independent project of mine. Unfortunately, I have basically no time to really dedicate to this, as classes are more than eating every bit of time I have. I'm slowly but surely getting into the meat of the script of this, but unless I was to not sleep for the next month this might get released before the official matchmaking release. Maybe we can make this a community project involving people that have more experience doing video editing and things like that. While I do have experience, it's nothing even close to the high quality content that some people in this community have produced.

Also, inb4 anyone mentions this as what's already been done. It's multiple years old, lies a ways inside the video AND doesn't include any explanation at all of the koth format. So I figured that it was about time to make something more updated while also maintaining the rulesets for multiple divisions, as NA and EU have slight variations on their rulesets. It was very well done, but it's not up to date. And I feel that if we were to include more recent content (from i55 and maybe even dreamhack), then it would be more appealing to newer players, as they would recognize what they would see in this video.

I feel like a quick reference guide would be the easiest thing for any newer player to grasp when looking at the competitive game. A 10(ish??) minute video explaining the basics such as map formats and rules, team composition (not going into much detail about why but making a remark about the mobility of certain classes over others), and weapon bans in league play would be good enough to encompass a single video, given that the correct material is presented in the right fashion. This would be aimed as a reference for anyone that has little to no idea of the competitive format and give them an insight to how the game flows so that they can appreciate what we see.

#15 MM small changes wishlist in TF2 General Discussion
drshdwpuppetStream list on main menu

This would be awesome to have, but would it be like the one tftv has or a completely new hud element? I can imagine inspiration would be taken from csgo for this

#17 I'm top damaging/fragging as roamer. in Q/A Help

from what it sounds like, you may just want to switch to pocket if you're having this much, err, success on roamer. But then again, there is the ugc iron factor in all of this. So it's probably better to already be looking to get yourself cemented in higher levels of play, whether that be esea or simply a higher ugc division with a better team
