#30 Girl at my school committed suicide in Off Topic

When I was a senior at my high school we started a FIRST robotics team. It was a lot of fun, we had a lot of fun people involved. There was this freshman who was really outgoing and fun- I liked to talk to him because he was funny and seemed like a really happy guy.

Two years later, he unexpectedly committed suicide after the robotics tournament that year. Just because someone may seem happy and outgoing doesn't mean that they aren't troubled on the inside. It was really sad, I miss that kid.

#64 the unpugable maps in TF2 General Discussion
drshdwpuppetIn order to get a really good map, we need a dedicated mapper to come to us with something that they are okay working over several times, combing through it and taking feedback on the face every step of the way.

This is what I did with logjam and I've got not much to show for it. Yes mistakes were made and yes as someone said mappers are bad at selecting what feedback to listen to (I was guilty of this) but there's only so much we can do. It's an incredibly frustrating experience to try and do anything with maps for competitive... I want to make something of logjam but the vast majority of people are just done with it.

#15 is a 144hz monitor worth the upgrade in Hardware

I tried one at one of the Portland lans and just moving the mouse on the desktop was enough to get hard.

I then went back to my own computer and everything felt laggy.

#11 165hz Asus monitor in Hardware

http://www.neweggbusiness.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9B-24-236-405&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleBiz-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleBiz-PC-_-pla-_-LCD+%2f+LED+Monitors-_-9B-24-236-405&gclid=CIiGvv6T1MgCFYU9aQodazQGAA

I did a bit of googling and found this, which I guess is the previous model- PG278Q instead of PG279Q. Both are 1440p, the one OP posted is 165 hz and 4 ms but this one is 144 hz and 1 ms... so which is better?

#36 We need to encourage TF2 map makers! in Map Discussion
UEAKCrashThen as soon as it's week came up, suddenly all the people who hadn't cared to look at the map yet started paying attention and taking issues with it. It was dead silence until just before their matches, and suddenly the map was to blame for their losses and half the league seemed to have problems with it. The commonly thrown around notion was to scrap the map because it would always be "terrible."

I'm not saying it's perfect, it has room for improvement, I got some valid feedback that I plan to implement, but after two years of development on the map, getting it dismissed on a passing glance is frustrating. The actual legit issues could've been found had more players bothered to look at new and upcoming maps and taken time to provide feedback to them. It's hard for mappers to see their map the way the players do because they have been so close to it for so long. If you want solid maps, the feedback loop has to happen.

Once again, that sounds pretty familiar. In my case when Logjam was in ETF2L it wasn't great but so many more people just dismissed it as bad because it was new without even looking into it. That's one of the most frustrating things. Phi saw it with Sunshine when it got in ESEA. It's an annoying mentality.

Cirlo, moving the point would be really easy. Making the lobby room smaller could be hard depending on the level of optimization and how everything fits together, but it would be doable.

#33 We need to encourage TF2 map makers! in Map Discussion

Phi hit the nail on the head.

Mapping for competitive is really frustrating and draining and most of the time you don't get anything out of it. If I could get a reliable group of people to test maps that wouldn't just tell me that they didn't like which barrels I chose or to "literally go kill myself" (Yes I've been told that...) it would be wonderful.

I haven't done anything to Logjam recently because I really don't know what I need to do because I get a mixture of vague responses like "well it kinda sucks because the whole thing is a clusterfuck" or "It's decent but not that good" or "I like it" which really doesn't tell me anything.

If you guys want new custom maps, get a good map group pug or something going with some higher level players and make it a regular deal. We should probably do this sort of thing even if what people want is updated/modified valve maps or others- those would still require testing.

Looks like we're stuck with Granary for at least another season. Hopefully it will be Granary Pro. If anyone who voted against logjam wants to say something I'd appreciate any feedback here: http://www.teamfortress.tv/14370/cp-logjam-5cp

#64 ESEA Map Vote Season 20 in TF2 General Discussion
mustardoverlordhowever, the level of negative feedback for ALL the maps listed thus far pales in comparison to the feedback that logjam has received. I can barely think of a single prem eu player/team that liked it in the slightest. I don't care if hyce is a nice guy who is still updating it, some maps are fundamentally broken to begin with. if a drug unequivocally fails its first clinical trial, they aren't going to push it on more people before changing it or scrapping it for a new product. I don't see why we need to be lab rats for a map that the last set of lab rats already rejected.

I may be a bit biased but I don't think that the drug trial/lab rats analogy fits in this case. Logjam got thrown into ETF2L during mid beta and it was honestly a really bad move to do that. That's partially on me and partially on the ETF2L admins who chose/allowed to put it in. It was overyhyped by people playing mixes. Most didn't like it in the first season it got played. Most said it was better in the second season, with the glaring issue being the mid.

I completely rebuilt the mid after that season. I think it's a lot better. I know it needs a little tweaking but I'm not sure what it needs. I wouldn't say that it's just throwing the same map at a different group of people at all.

That being said it looks like granary is getting voted back in and I only hope that they will choose to make it the pro version instead. Maybe there will be a chance for Logjam next season. If not I've wasted a large amount of time for next to nothing.

Looks like the second vote is up. No choice for Gran Pro which I think is a mistake.

I didn't realize the 2nd SoCal LAN had happened already. I will have to take a peak at it. I think they only wound up playing a few rounds on Logjam last time and I didn't get much out of it that I remember. I do certainly appreciate seeing it get run though!

#28 ESEA Map Vote Season 20 in TF2 General Discussion

I hope that it can be one of the better maps in rotation but at the moment I've gotten very little feedback on B20/RC1. I can't really do much to improve the map unless I get more serious testing. If you guys choose to vote Logjam in this time around I can assure you I will do everything in my power to make it an even better map for the following season... most of the other maps in the rotation don't change. Logjam can change to become a better map.

Please all,

I would really appreciate you guys considering logjam. I know in the past I've pushed things too hard but Logjam is at a pretty solid spot right now (I hope) and I would absolutely love to get serious feedback on it. People keep telling me it doesn't have to be played in season to get feedback but pugs and mixes just don't do it.

It's RC1, it's actually a decent looking RC1 for me this time and I have some ideas for some changes for an RC2.

I can understand people not wanting to vote something out but if you have to vote something new in I would really appreciate you guys voting for Logjam.
