Sorry to bother you guys again, but I think my server accidentally ended up in the Deathmatch section instead of the MGE section. Just wanted to let you know before someone gets angry about it or something lol.

Hi, I would like to have my main MGE server added to the TF.TV Server list. I have run it for quite some time and it still receives a decent amount of traffic. Here is the information for it:
- DM/MGE/Jump etc. server (servers focused on ability development) Strictly an MGE server, nothing else.
- Provide the server ip:port 70.42.74.79:27015
- State the server location New York City on NFO.
Thanks in advance,
Jstn7477
DrewIs it really that low or are you not even using an FPS config? I'm getting minimum like 180FPS in 6s match with my 2500k @ 4.2GHz. It drops down to like 120-130 in large pubs sometimes worse if it's really bad.
28 slot pub, Chris' maxquality config, r_shadows 0, mat_vsync 1. I may have changed a few other things as well but the brunt of the config is intact.
+1 to disabling shadows. r_shadows 0 gives a very noticeable FPS boost, like up to 10%.
I'm trying my ASUS VG236HE at 100Hz (it allows 50/60/100/110/120) and so far so good. I find the FPS drops more annoying than increasing my frame latency from 8.3ms to 10ms, and since TF2 loves to drop to ~100 FPS, it keeps things smooth.
Minimum FPS for me with a 4770K at 4.4GHz core/4.275GHz cache is about 95 worst case scenario. With a 4.3GHz 3770K, it was about 80-85, sometimes a little less. Considering I am struggling even with Intel's most powerful architecture, good luck with AMD processors. A Bulldozer module consists of "2 cores" which are really just the integer cores and they share a single floating point unit. I'd love to support AMD, but their architecture is literally shit for single-threaded games, and one of the only games it even runs comparable to an i7 in is Battlefield 3. Other games like Skyrim and Civ 5 run like trash simply because the strong single-core performance isn't there. Sure, they may be better than equivalently priced Intel CPUs for gaming while streaming, but there isn't much of a contest at the i7 level if you want the highest minimum frame rates.
Long story short, 120 FPS gaming has a lot of CPU overhead, especially on many DX9 multiplayer games which have to use proprietary multithreading methods because DX9 was around when single-core processors were the only thing around and it wasn't designed to be multithreaded. DX11 games can supposedly thread a lot better e.g. Far Cry 3 which completely maxes out my 7970's usage 100% of the time and with 60% CPU usage) but of course we are just now getting new gaming consoles after many years.
See if you can track down any burnt smells and/or smoke stains restricted to a certain area. You'll want to check the PSU first, especially if the pops were loud. Other possibilities are failed motherboard or graphics card power MOSFETs, capacitors possibly other electrical components. I would not attempt to turn on the computer again until you believe you have tracked down the issue.
PhelixJstn7477-fps issues and stuff-
that doesn't seem right. I have almost a straight downgrade from that (i5 750 @ 4.0 and HD6950) and I get considerably better fps using chris's max quality config. Are you sure it's not throttling you or anything (thermal limits)?
90% cpu usage could very well be maxing out in this case, because the code isn't perfectly optimized and may have to stall or not make full use of the processor all of the time. But that said, a 3770k at 4.3 shouldn't be that strained to do 80fps. Try using something like CPU-Z while you're playing to make sure you're actually getting 4.3 and it's not limiting you.
Sorry, I guess this is kinda off topic. I may be able to help, feel free to add me if you want.
I use HWiNFO64 and MSI Afterburner along with RivaTunerStatisticsServer to overlay my CPU usage (total and per thread as well as core clocks) along with GPU information into my games. TF2 uses 4 threads and the highest one is the first thread most of the time (90% was the greatest I have seen it). CPU temperature never exceeds 82c under normal circumstances using a Thermaltake Water 2.0 Performer AIO cooler with push-pull fans.
Here's an example screenshot on Dustbowl. I think the pub was full (24-28 player range). The FPS just casually went down to 85, and it often hangs out around 100 if I am in a spectator camera after being moved to AFK or being unassigned to a team. http://img.techpowerup.org/130529/2013-05-24_00001.jpg
I can easily get 160-260 FPS without VSYNC on around a half full server, but once the pub becomes pretty full, I get annoying FPS drops like this. Same thing happened with my 2600K @ 4.5GHz, an HD 7950 and a different ASRock Extreme series motherboard.
I really wonder how many players are on some players servers when say "I never get under 200 FPS" or whatever, as my computer got pretty high average FPS on the TF2 benchmark demo thread. 6v6 FPS is obviously going to be a whole lot different than 24-32 player server FPS.
People looking forward to the GeForce GTX 770 (essentially a refined GTX 680) might be in luck as far as pricing goes. Rumor has it that the reference GTX 770 will feature the cooler used on TITAN and the 780, and will supposedly cost around $400. The GTX 680 debuted at $500, so GTX 680s could possibly be lowered to the sub-$300 range when they become "obsolete" after the GTX 770's release.
I'm curious what AMD has planned for their next-gen cards. So far, things have been quiet news-wise.
I have a 3770K @ 4.3GHz and an HD 7970, and my FPS goes down to around 80 in fights on 24-28 player pubs (especially payload maps, for some reason they seem to be the worst). Maximum CPU utilization is ~30% and GPU is less than 40%, the game only uses a maximum of 4 threads of my 8, and the main thread goes up to about 90% maximum usage. I'm using DXlevel 95 and pretty much maxed out settings, but r_shadows is set to 0 because it seems to help raise the minimum FPS by a good 10% or so on many systems. Sadly, most of the games I play seem to have this "overhead" where I get FPS drops even though nothing on my system is actually "maxed out."
The GTX 770 is a rebranded GTX 680, so it is unlikely the prices of 600 series cards will go down much. The only new card here is the GTX 780, which is essentially a GTX TITAN with one less active SMX (cluster of shader processors) enabled. The current 600 series chips will likely be rebranded as well, much like the "Fermi" 500 series was a refinement of the original GTX 400 "Fermi" architecture.
Now I remember why I did poorly in high school (not to mention this was one of the only games that would run on the school provided laptops we had for a year).
Thanks Cprice, I updated the plugin on my servers but changes will apply when the servers empty out and restart.
As mentioned above, GTX 480s are not for the weak. They have the capability of drawing around 300-350w under maximum load per card, your case needs superb airflow and the heatsinks need to be kept as clean as possible at all times because the cards can run quite toasty in demanding games. Nice price, considering GTX 570s go for around $180 and GTX 580s are still in the low 200s on tech/computer forums.
sonnyjaboyDangit, I was hoping it'll work for my Asus G55 Laptop. (Currently running with a GeForce 660 :_:
The generic notebook version of the drivers doesn't work for you? http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/62483
There is a brand new 320.14 BETA driver as of today, by the way. This is the desktop version: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/62479
320.00 BETAs only correct the DX8 problem for Kepler GK10x GPUs a.k.a. the GeForce 600 series. They don't fix the issue for Fermi GF10x/11x a.k.a. GeForce 400/500 GPUs, so you need to stay on 306.97 and disable NVIDIA update as well as fully automatic Windows Updates (choose download and notify when updates are ready, not download and automatically inatall).
