I feel your with the 560ti. The numbers are all that annoy me though, not sure how or why, but I haven't found a game yet that I couldn't max out with it. Of course, that's usually with ~70c temps since I OC'd it a teensy-weensy bit.

Yeah, it's getting to the point where people are buying performance they don't need.

Unless you're running a few monitors/super resolutions then it's kind of unnecessary to really drop this kind of money on these cards. But as long as people keep buying them they'll keep coming.

I thought they were coming out Q4 or Q1 of next year? Odd. Anyways, I agree but at the same time with 3D and all the new innovative stuff I think the software will catch up with the hardware. It's still just for enthusiasts really. It's like the 500 to 600 series jump. Everyone was still content with their 500 series cards yet they had all these new cards (which practically everyone buys now) I honestly don't think they should release them yet but whatever. Btw i think the drivers are going to make these cards even more beastly as long as they come out.

I think AMD will still beat them in sheer performance with the 8000 series but nvidia will win their fanboys with physX and CUDA etc.

Nah, AMD doesn't really win in performance, nvidia always raises the bar. I don't think the 8000 will beat the 790, if it does i think nvdia will pull something out of their ass.

But in terms of price and just being practical amd wins, with less features of course (lightboost, triple a title optimizing games for nvdia cards, better gtx drivers etc)

A lot of popular titles are console ports, roughly optimized for pc's after the fact that they were developed for consoles, but with the new consoles coming out it will def push the envelope for console ports.

That's what I'm banking on. My video card just died, so I'm stuck playing old ps2 games for the time being.

i hardly doubt it'll drop. The 580 is still like 400 lol and the 560 is around 160-170 so theres a low chance it'll go down that much.

I think amd will beat nvidia in this next gen just like last gen but i think nvidia will have another monster like the titan to win back the fanboys. I still laugh at the kids that bought the titan for 350 more than the 780 when the 780 falls short only by 6-9% in most games hehe

The GTX 770 is a rebranded GTX 680, so it is unlikely the prices of 600 series cards will go down much. The only new card here is the GTX 780, which is essentially a GTX TITAN with one less active SMX (cluster of shader processors) enabled. The current 600 series chips will likely be rebranded as well, much like the "Fermi" 500 series was a refinement of the original GTX 400 "Fermi" architecture.

There are still games coming out regularly that push the envelope when it comes to graphics. If you've got a 1080p+ monitor and you want the best frame rates possible then dropping that kind of cash is necessary. A lot of people upgrade their computers regularly as a hobby.

Some people like fancy cars. Some people like fancy clothes. Some people collect shoes.
My passion is top of the line PCs. It's not like I spend money on anything else. I like video games. I don't really see a problem with it :>

Don't bank on getting last generation hardware and getting really high value out of it. Unless it's used. Last generation stuff doesn't drop by a huge amount, and certainly not enough to make it better than buying the current gen stuff. You'd be better off getting a low end current gen graphics card

Nvidia is getting a good boost with the 700 series. Considering that AMD won't release anything new anytime soon as far as GPU's go.

I'd be surprised if AMD doesn't come out with something soon... I'm sure they were very aware that NVIDIA could come out with new GPUs at this time of year

I think AMD even said it themselves that they won't release anything this year, maybe after seeing the new 700's, They are having a 2nd thought over it.

They said they would release nothing this year and then released the 7790 which I heard was a hybrid between current gen and next gen hardware anyway. So I'm not completely convinced that there won't be AMD cards this year

People looking forward to the GeForce GTX 770 (essentially a refined GTX 680) might be in luck as far as pricing goes. Rumor has it that the reference GTX 770 will feature the cooler used on TITAN and the 780, and will supposedly cost around $400. The GTX 680 debuted at $500, so GTX 680s could possibly be lowered to the sub-$300 range when they become "obsolete" after the GTX 770's release.

So does this mean that there will be very few 680s left and everyone will buy them instantly because it's really good value? At least if say someone is building a computer based on current generation (not including the gpus that aren't out yet) the 680 is really cheap
