Did he really fuck us over?
Think like a businessman for a second. He could have looked at the numbers and just removed the tf2 division just like a candy store removes a less popular (but unique) brand of chocolate. He's in it to make a profit - and he had enough financial incentive to make the cut altogether.
I'm not a fan of the guy, but it does take a little bit of grace to back away from the knife in the business world. This kind of stuff is 95% of the time NOT about feelings but about finances.
If you remove ESEA, what does the NA tf2 scene turn into? I could see a lot of the "established" people here hanging it up and going elsewhere (or just stopping video games altogether).
Let's not pretend this isn't also a business opportunity he's trying to take here.
I'm sure he didn't just keep the tf2 season out of good will, valve actually announcing matchmaking is breaking news for comp tf2 and if the scene really does take off then esea will be in prime position to reap the numbers and take it to the next level. Where as if he dropped tf2 now, by the time matchmaking would be released there would be other leagues (community run or not) taking from what esea left and he would have no market share, so what he's doing is actually a smart business decision because he's keeping his market share in a game which potentially will pay out in the near future, it's still a risk but I'm sure it doesn't lose them money and they have the opportunity to be the industry leaders in 2 esports instead of 1.
