#41 oPlaiD on Matchmaking in News

Weapon balancing to make most weapons equally viable is cool but my concern is if you start messing with class core attributes to make them more competitively viable in 6s for example.

TF2 classes are like a giant game of rock, paper, scissors, (ie: if you buff pyro to make it more competitively viable in 6s you're gonna fuck around with all the other classes that work in synergy/or against it).

We saw what a little sticky nerf made scouts like at high levels, even more deadly and not only the cleanup crew but the entire wrecking crew.

#17 TF2 update for 4/29/15 in TF2 General Discussion
emkayThe demo playback system is really neat.

If you put a tick ahead of your current one (say, putting in 20000 when you're at 10000), the game will speed up to that tick for you automatically. It is similar to doing a 600% playback, or host_framerate 1.

As for rewinding, it's a bit odd - it restarts the demo from 0, then fast forwards the game to the tick you entered, May take a little while to get to those bookmarks at tick 102000, haha.

Still a great update either way. :)

The skipping crash was already fixable by setting "mat_queue_mode 1" like I have on my recording config, but it's really great its solved for good, altough I haven't tested it after the update, the way you are describing makes it not practical at all, I would imagine they would skip to the intended tick directly. 600% playback still takes minutes to go accross 100k ticks.

#6 Possible Majors? in TF2 General Discussion

One step at a time.

There's potential for all that I think, but first the update itself needs to see the light of the day. Then I guess when details are ironed out the game of numbers will decide our fate. But valve can very much influence that with esport items. CSGO scene saw a exponential increase with esport cases/items.

#30 Fully Charged! Valve and Competitive TF2 - Episode 42 in Events

Any ETA for any of these big updates or is it Valve Time™ ?

Can you elaborate more in depth what you discussed regarding the changes for people who edit tf2 videos? After watching extine vlog I got super excited with that. Are they just porting the changes they did to csgo demo ui and ironing out bugs or something else more? Any of those is totally fine for me.

Have they discussed possible monetization of competitive through items, cases/keys, etc?

Also have interest in Admirable question, it would be really good to have a constant line of feedback for both ways so all this can go as smooth as possible.

Also, have they thought or did they even mention about reaching out for help or in best case scenario hiring community members who have already created a lot of tools for the competitive community and contributed a huge amount to the technical aspect of the community, and which would make their work a lot easier? (ex: GentlemanJon stats and ranking work, anakin, f2, bluee, tsc plugins, zoob logs.tf, tf2center devs, lange's mge, etc)

I reckon for example for ranked matchmaking would be really cool to see them reaching out to Jon after his notable work with player rankings.

ErenJayValve should hire gentlemanjohn

Not even kidding, the theory crafting and work Jon put in making all these ranking systems would be a huge help for the tf2 team and matchmaking I'm sure. The mathematical work would be half done with his contribution.

So I watched the extv vlog now, at around 5:00 mana says that if you are a video editor you are going to have a good time, I am fuckin HYPED

If they update the demo ui like they did for csgo and fix a lot of bugs like it was suggested in the feedback thread Im going to have a field day editing frags.

ZestyI actually broke down crying when I read this.
I should probably see a therapist.

It's ok buddy, Im here for you. Im really emotional as well

So much time and effort I put into this game and community the last few years, seeing this all come together is honestly one of the best things that has happened to me so far this year.

And Im just gonna retire this image in this thread, I hope for good.

#70 What game would you play comp other than tf2? in Other Games

teamfortress4lyf, but if it had to happen back to W:Enemy Territory I go. Game that sparked my love for fps and gaming in general. Class based fps's are just the bee's knees.

#14 Spastic Arms. TF2 Movie Starring Forsak3n in Videos

The animations are part of a bunch of class animation overhaul packs you can download on fpsbanana

I have questioned myself before if I should edit with these animations or not, they're very well animated but when you test it out they just dont feel right in a game like tf2, at least for me. In the end it's personal preference and I can see why you would go for them, gives a bit of flair.

Great work with the transitions/smooths, the whole movie is amazing and the frags are crazy good. Nice work!

#15 Best 6v6 map in Map Discussion
Frost_BiteAlso the last cap is too fast and pretty much everyone who disagrees is just someone who has been playing for a long time and is merely incredibly used to it.

I said before in another thread, the last cap time is kinda the basic premise of the map. It's what makes it incredibly dynamic and back and forth, where you really need to be in control of pushing timings to push out from.

You're right, it's kind of an unforgiving map for new players, but that's partly what makes it so great, it's so much more reliant on coordinated timings and pushes or else you can get punished on the flanks or backcapped.

But I dont agree it's unintuitive, if it feels that way for you it's probably because you haven't played it enough, after a certain level you just know how to deal with most the situations, now if you aren't able to execute them as a team, that's a different thing.
