#8 WarOwl Likes TF2 Community in TF2 General Discussion
SentinelHe likes the tf2 community because this game is so starved for attention that people kiss his ass just for being "famous" and trying out tf2
I have nothing against the guy (I didn't even know he existed before someone posted about him here) and I'm not saying that we're normally the most toxic community on the planet or some shit, but his experience is very very far from the average

his experience was definitely special but even disregarding that, i think hes right. as far as pubs go its way more relaxed than any other game ive seen of its size. and while comp is more toxic its not a fraction as bad as cs, overwatch, lol, dota, or anything else i can think of.

the only rng (I think) in that game is critical hits, which are easily its biggest flaw. i would argue its not at all RPS because even pokemon who have really obvious disadvantages have ways of protecting themselves from those disadvantages being exploited.

theres also accuracy and damage spread (all attacks have random variance). as well as quite a few move-specific rng elements.

that said the while nature of the simultaneous turn system means you have to make guesses and play mindgames regardless. competitively its best to treat it like poker, where rng is an inevitable factor but youre meant to play the odds. even then there are several degrees of reliability you can go for in teambuiling (usually at the cost of predictability or the ability to control the flow of the game). theres definitely a lot of depth to the game and rng can still result in bullshit wins, but once you and your opponent are competent at the game its usually not gonna be a dice roll to see who wins. theres an online battle simulator if you wanna try it out without spending 30 years making an ingame team but low ladder is dumb as rocks so it probably wont give the best impression.

#12 "TF2 is still better than OW." - Sadokist (CSGO) in Off Topic
mmrarktehonestly id prefer to have tf2 and its community as it is now than it become a multimillion dollar esport anyway

well realistically making a sequel would likely be more feasible than undertaking the massive optimization, rebalancing, and rebranding that tf2 would need to really compete as a high end esport these days. tf2 has a serious reputation as a pub game and hat simulator on top of needing a lot of work anyway; and if valve really cared about making it into a profitable esport itd probably be more successful as a sequel rather than an improved tf2.

#12 TF2 is nominated for Steam Award "Labor of Love" in Off Topic
TimTumTF2 is the oldest game (by far) in this category. (Titan Quest was 2006 but the Anniversary Edition is 2016)
It might be true that devs for Warframe or PoE work a lot harder, but that's not the goal of this award when I read the description.

every game on there has had a lot of support post-release. its a prerequisite for the category in the first place. if age was all that mattered then it wouldnt be much of a competition.

not that it even matters since these awards are just about which game has the most rabid fanboys so itll probably be tf2 or poe anyway.

#10 forward spawning script? in TF2 General Discussion
viperhow hard is it to just select pyro/heavy/engineer or some shit then go back to scout/soldier/demo

if you want this to do the shit where switching your hat forward spawns/back spawns you without losing uber that’s banned in esea and etf2l afaik

i mean its still faster. also a bind can let you avoid damage if you hit it the moment you get past the spawn doorway.

#7 forward spawning script? in TF2 General Discussion

i got the good shit

ez mode is

bind "F5" "load_itempreset 0"
bind "F6" "load_itempreset 1"
bind "F7" "load_itempreset 2"
bind "F8" "load_itempreset 3"

hitting each loadout key will cycle spawns so just hit the one youre on.

if you wanna have a single key remember your loadout its more complicated. In autoexec you want something like:

alias 1load load_itempreset 0
alias 2load load_itempreset 0
alias 3load load_itempreset 0
alias 4load load_itempreset 0
alias 5load load_itempreset 0
alias 6load load_itempreset 0
alias 7load load_itempreset 0
alias 8load load_itempreset 0
alias 9load load_itempreset 0

Then in each class cfg, you need something like:

bind F5 "load_itempreset 0; alias 1load load_itempreset 0"
bind F6 "load_itempreset 1; alias 1load load_itempreset 1"
bind F7 "load_itempreset 2; alias 1load load_itempreset 2"
bind F8 "load_itempreset 3; alias 1load load_itempreset 3"

bind 1 1load

changing 1load to 2load, 3load, etc for each class.

Thisll make it so that the 1 key would refresh whatever your current loadout is (so long as you change using F5-8). Unfortunately you cant make it remember between game sessions so itll default to loadout 1 on launch.

#31 Lightning gun pyro in TF2 General Discussion

i doubt its only to do with the hitboxes because the LG was considered the only reliable gun a few months ago. the patches did genuinely fuck with the hit detection and make it worse. theyve already been talking about making hitboes more forgiving well before the LG started being shit so itd be weird for them to make it worse on purpose.

regardless i think he was more talking about how quakes movement makes shit harder since their mechanics give you pretty solid escape options if you arent stuck in a corner. and the LG in quake has knockback which would be absolutely infuriating in tf2.

also zaryas dps and range is garbage by overwatch standards. 120 dps in tf2 is about as strong as zarya at full energy in OW. and OW's maps are waaaay more wide open and vertical than tf2 so youre much easier to play around/spam out in general..
