i actually like the idea of there being one or two experimental maps that get cycled around until something is actually fun
But like dont remove staple maps for them remove shit like swift and gorge that people are actually complaining about
on the bright side civ 6 came out so fuck this lol
Gemmellnessscream fortress updates rarely introduce anything other than festitvities which you get bored of after a day or two
This is true but valve never announced ahead of time that theyre basically not focusing on SF because of other stuff.
There could definitely be other things, valve has deviated from some of their tends already this year. While existing players tend to apprieciate updates/improvements as theyre reelased, overall player growth tends to be more significant when a bunch of shit comes out at once and draws a lot of attention.
when sigafoo talked about his valve visit (i think, i didnt watch i jist read some of the thread) he mentioned valve planning matchmaking seasons. Which would be a good time for them to change the ranking system, ruleset, maps, or make balance changes. And it would be prudent (with how negative MMs reception was) to release that alongside an update or event because it would be easier to get players to give MM another shot.
i might be overly optimistic but im not gonna feel crushed if its not the case anyway so idk.
i mean do you really think theyll just double down on everything after myms launch? like if youre just gonna write off every improvement that would actually matter then what are you expecting, a new menu screen?
junk food that doesnt leave shit on my hands
His main point is that if valve is gonna support the game then overall changes need to be made
which is true. its reasonable for valve to hold off on official support until the MM and competitive formats are the same, so players can go from casual>mm>competitive leagues. And its also reasonable for them to desire a whitelist-free mode with better class distribution because both of those are huge red flags for anyone looking to invest in the scene (it glaringly points out that competitive growth isnt a priority when the community breaks off from official rulesets).
hes saying the game will have to change if comp is going to succeed and you seem to be interpreting it as him saying that we should just axe our current ruleset and deal with shit until valve makes a move
ether rex i dont know what special is but i have all of it
werent battlefields in that era open as fuck
i got the xbox version back in 2008
i remember picking pyro on 2fort and aimlessly dicking around but thats as detailed as it gets for me
i know i played 2fort like 50 times before trying anything else though
theyre making quake champions which has some questionable design choices
A lot of pyro weapons are perfectly fine but just held back by being pyro weapons, and would be more than viable if the class as a whole was stronger. He relies on his secondary for damage so much that using det or scorch gimp the class even though the weps have plenty of utility. He has a lot of interesting melee weapons too but the powerjacks movespeed is so vital that the rest might as well not exist.
i think that if pyro was buffed and had better skill indexing then a lot more of his tools would be viable with hardly any changes.
well except the volcano frag but that was designed for medieval mode anyway so who cares
MR_SLINI think that the TF2 dev team handled everything pretty well given these circumstances, and while they may not be able to satisfy everyone, I think that they've done a good job and that's why I have faith in them to make the best decisions for their game moving forward. People will always want more updates in less time with more content, but they've done the best that they can and that is commendable.
its been a fucking disaster considering the circumstances. Like even ignoring the ruleset itself (which imo there can be good reasons for it being lenient like it is, assuming its open to change later) there were a ton of issues:
- The company has two successful matchmaking systems and appeared to take very little reference from them, resulting in issues with region placement and major ELO hell problems for average skilled players and below
- The MM system itself had a six month beta but saw more changes (that were made known to us at least) in its first month post-release than it seemed to during the entire beta.
- The quickplay system was released with casual, which at launch had shorter games, longer wait times, penalized players for leaving, and was lacking standard features that already existed, like map-selection, ad-hoc connections, or the ability to choose based on server location or player count. Competitive & MM became a scapegoat for an arguably worse casual experience for people who werent particularly interested in MM
- The update itself launched with massive server problems, which combined with the above, meant that the game was basically unplayable outside of community servers (AKA the servers that completely lacked all the new features they were trying to push)
peak player count barely broke numbers set merely a month before and have basically stagnated since then. this entire ordeal has failed to meet very reasonable expectations so far, and their increased frequency of updates look more like extensive damage control to bring the game to a place that everyone kind of expected it to be when MyM was released back in July. The ruleset is just icing on what is already a poorly executed system overall.
Enterimwickedplayer494 a new item that gives unusual effects to taunts,
Valve is adding an Unusualifier??? Not even a Strangifier for taunts first? Goddamn.
i think pubs already have enough problem with serial taunt spammers without giving people more of a reason to farm uses.
leviathanAlso, like I said before, the 50% rj resistance in total opens up a NEW slot instead of gunboats.
self damage isnt reduced by the base 25% damage reduction, so it only has the 25% self damage reduction it has listed, not 50%.
and whether or not people found the teams balanced...
