Open borders are an internationalist, pro-business position. Closed borders are protectionist and nationalist. Whether they're mean or not is irrelevant to my point.
Edit: On the Middle East, the US should not have gone there, but has created what would be a failed state if we left. Disentangling your military from a situation like that is a hard ask. Not inconsistent with an anti-war position. How would you do it?
You have a very naive view of politics if you think CNN showing donald trump on the TV, or "a minority electinh him" contradicts what I'm saying. I'm not saying a conspiracy rules everything, though certainly rich people can organize collectively, as the epstein case I mentioned, as well as this impeachment process shows. I'm sure you agree that an essential fact of our political process is wealthy people and companies paying politicians for favorable policy outcomes. All this requires is these people or companies acting out of pure self-interest. It can be in CNN's best interest to show Donald Trump if they want to make lots of money off ads, and it can be in CNN's board of directors' best interest if Trump is removed from office, if it might hurt their stock options.
Also, this petty bit about the Electoral College/ Senate being unfair. Power, cultural, economic or political, is concentrated in densely populated areas by definition. On top of this, California et. all already receive more power than say Wyoming in the House. The purpose of the Senate is to avoid situations like Alberta, Canada, wherein a natural resource-rich but low population area essentially bankrolls the entire country's budget. "Power" is more than how many guys in suits you have standing around in some room in DC. How many House seats is NBC's headquarters in Manhattan worth?
