#36 Why do so many people bash 9v9? in TF2 General Discussion
m4risaI really feel this is wrong.

The Medic really only keeps track of the Heavy and Demo; Pyro keeps track of the Heavy, Medic, Demo. The Engineer, Sniper, and Spy generally do their own things (build stuff and get key picks). Scout and Soldier (usually) play the flank and try to annoy. Losing a player in Highlander, especially classes like Scout, Spy, Engineer (on offense), Pyro, or Spy doesn't make nearly as much of an impact as losing any single one class does in 6v6. If you're trying to keep track of the positions of every single player on your team by yourself like in 6v6 then you're going to to crazy. There isn't a need to keep track of so many things at once in the 9v9 format. If everyone plays their role like they're supposed to then there shouldn't be a problem and you shouldn't feel overwhelmed.

Your assessment is correct for each individual position, but I think in order for the HL meta to advance a more efficient method of main calling is required. As it stands now a full team is pretty slow at pushing, and the lesson from 6s is that faster is usually better. The quicker you can take and hold ground in between control points the better, ideally with as few enemy picks as possible.

The team that figures out how to do all that and somehow keep comms efficient will probably dominate for a couple of seasons until everybody else catches up.

#9 Why do so many people bash 9v9? in TF2 General Discussion

If you want an honest assessment:

At the moment, Highlander is organized chaos. If my understanding of TF2 competitive history is correct, 9v9 was tested as a potential comp mode during the Beta. But it was scrapped in favor of refining the game's pacing, ultimately producing the modern 6v6 meta.

This I think stunted meta development in HL, combined with prize money going into 6s and the ever expanding armory of unlocks there is no real refinement.

Additionally, most leaders can only track up to about three separate things at once. This is no problem in 6v6 because you can track yourself, the combo and the flank with ease. But in HL there can be anywhere from four to seven different elements to keep track of at once, it's impossible for one person to do.

#8 Youtube Audio Library in Off Topic

This is actually a pretty good step by YouTube, even if commenters will poke fun at using one of these tracks in a video it pretty much assures that the video won't get nailed later for using a song that gets moved into copyright-infringement territory.

Saves on paperwork for video uploads too.

#62 The Steam Universe is Expanding in 2014 in Off Topic

EDIT: Damnit r4pture is a ninja..

Kaneco-snip-

Couldn't that fit into the announcement? Each console made could have it's own controller made for it.

Entertainment is not a one-size-fits-all world. We want you to be able to choose the hardware that makes sense for you, so we are working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines to market during 2014, all of them running SteamOS.

So basically:

Place your bets ladies, gentlemen and offclassers. What will it be? A box? A Sequel?

EarthBound on the SNES, if you either haven't played it on the Wii or want to see it before all the fun nerfs.

Some Super Mario World romhacks are good for some hilarious platforming hijinks.

smoboi would laugh so hard if announcement 3 was never given a timer and they just left the website up forever, two thirds complete.

They wouldn't be that big of a jerk, this is basically how they announced most major TF2 updates. So leaving Day 3 hanging would be rather rude.

SneakyPolarBearExactly why are people upset at Blink?

His team is good, and there is nothing they can do to be in a higher div except play a season in open.

Really not seeing the arrogance.

I dunno, maybe people are trying to psyche out him and his team. If they're as good as they say there's no reason they can't 16-0 the regular season and go undefeated in the playoffs. That'll probably be the only way Killing and Kalkin can get the "Except in Rare Circumstances" rule in their toolbox.
