defyMagusYeah, show's incredible. The way they did the last 8 minutes of episode 4 all in one shot was pretty genius, and it fit with the plot line of the episode perfectly. The writing is great, definitely. I've heard that since it's an anthology, Matthew and Woody won't be back next season as it'll be a completely new case. I hope that's not what happens because those two have great on-screen chemistry.
Either way, it's a great show, would recommend.
The thing is, Woody and McConaughey are both executive producers. They said it would be similar to American Horror Story, and while half of the cast changes each season, many have been on each season, some being the central characters every time. I expect both of them to stay on, but may or may not be the main characters, maybe playing antagonists or who knows what.
Yes, I really hope this is true. I knew they were EPs but I just wasn't sure if they said they were going to do the show after this season because I just heard that the writer hadn't "signed" any cast yet for the next season (making a point of talking about a new cast). However, in that same interview he talked about some other "stories" he would like to tell in the True Detective universe and they sounded really cool. For example:
Show Content
There could be a season that’s much more of a widespread conspiracy thriller, a season that’s a small‑town murder mystery, a season where nobody is murdered and it’s a master criminal versus a rogue detective or something. Even the title, True Detective, is meant to be, of course, purposefully somewhat generic – the word “true” can also mean honorable and authentic and things like that. So as long as there is some crime in there, I think the series format can approach it.
