#20 UK Voters: Register to vote you fucks in World Events
AdnurakI disagree that democracy has created the high quality of life we enjoy today, I don't see how you can come to the conclusion that democracy itself is responsible for the technological progress that has created the society we live in, if anything democracy hinders progress by stifling competition.

What? If anything, democracy is responsible for the competition we have today. I don't see how any other system of government would be capable of producing what we have today. Speaking from my experience as an American, yes, there are issues with oligarchy and paid-off politicians, but these are problems that could be solved with a larger, more involved pool of voters.

AdnurakMy problem is not that my voice is not being heard, it's with the idea that it's okay to have 51% of the population (actually less) decide for the rest of society how everyone's money should be spent, or that it's okay to take people's money by force in the first place. Even still, that 51% aren't even in with a chance at actually making those decisions, that goes to an even smaller group of people. The whole thing is immoral.

It sounds like you're denouncing communism, not the governments we actually have. The government doesn't take all of my money, just a bit, in order to able to function. I don't know if you've ever heard of the concept of a "social contract," but my understanding of it is this: in order to have certain protections, you give up some of your own rights. It's something that everybody understands on some level; for example, I pay taxes so that I can call the police if my neighbor tries to come steal my shit. Total anarchy, like what you seem to be advocating, works only for a very, very small portion of the population. It cannot do a better job of keeping things competitive, because competition always ends; there is an end goal to be reached, and that's what our government is supposed to keep in motion. Look at competitive TF2, for example. The goal is to win the title at the end of the season, and there can be only one winner. The only reason more people get to win is because there is a system in place which divides time up into seasons, forcing previous winners to run the gauntlet again. When something gets too big, the government is supposed to break it up and give competition a chance. Anarchy just delays the creation of another system for a few years at most while one group of people consolidates power, and then there is no power to break that group up. At least, that's what government is supposed to do, and voting is what compels government to keep breaking things up and the system moving. This whole "too big to fail" thing that my government has pushed under Obama and Bush is a fucking travesty, and the reason the people who pushed that shit have been able to hold onto power is because people don't fucking vote, giving small special interests more power.

Honestly dude, "not voting" isn't really a thing. You live in a country, you buy anything, interact with anyone, and you're a part of the system. Not casting a ballot just tells the people in power that you don't matter.

#15 UK Voters: Register to vote you fucks in World Events

youre fucking delusional if you think the system hasn't lead to the best living conditions in history. its got some big fucking problems but if you dont vote then youre really just voting to let those problems fester and worsen instead of working on them. no, of course youre not gonna fix shit in one election; even if every single person voted for their own best interest it'd take decades to properly clean the system up, but voting (and activism if youre into it i guess) is the ONLY reliable way to ultimately fix the problems we have.

if you really, REALLY don't like your options, then at least go out and cast an empty ballot. let your voice be heard declaring "fuck this shit," don't just send a message of apathy to people who want to fuck you over.

#78 Samurai Jack season 5 in Music, Movies, TV
Show Content
BeelthazusJack going back to the past and destroying Aku there defeated the entire point of the show. The end of the fourth season we knew there was no way back to the past for jack, so the show took on a deeper meaning. In the fifth season the show seemed to embrace this purpose of living with the past, moving forward, and living jack's life. The entire last episode just shits all over this concept that has been built on for five and nine tenth's seasons, and I refuse to accept it as Genndy Tartakovsky vision for the show's finale. This reminds me of the mass effect 3 ending, and it was just about as rushed.
10000% this. The only message I can see the show taking now is one of "the world goes on." Just felt so empty to show all the characters we met and liked over the series' lifespan, only to go back and decide that they never existed in the first place; that, in a sense, Jack himself killed them. To instead end the show with a bunch of characters from Jack's childhood that we only met once or twice for brief moments... an incredibly unfulfilling ending to an incredible season.

#14 Valve shuts down SPUF in Off Topic

what. why. seriously, the number of times I've had issues in TF2, googled it, and found the answer on those forums...

it's like Valve doesn't just not want to make interesting games anymore, they don't want to have to maintain their old games, either.

CollaideIt would be more constructive if you made an argument rather than just stating your opinion.

i think it's hard to form any concrete arguments without playing the map. Unfortunately I'd imagine most of us (hi) don't belong to any inhouses that are playing new maps.
