You're absolutely right, don't know how I didn't see the word -main-.
I would never slap olives between two slices of bread and eat it, even though I do enjoy eating olives from a bowl.
I like black olives on a sub every now and then but I think we're talking about normal sandwiches here.
Hmm.. I could see it translating, as long as you use the right meat (maybe roast beef?) and pair it with other toppings prone to secreting juice like pickles or tomatoes... but then thats just a discount sub in lame sandwich bread.

What do you think of this? Will this be a good example to other games? Was this done as a proactive response to the rising government interest in the ethics of loot boxes, or because they really thought loot boxes needed to go?

Why do they deserve it.
If you were one of 2 developers working on a game that was released 10 years ago and probably still contains code from when development started 10 years before that, now working in an outdated version of an outdated engine, you'd probably take a real long time to get anything done, too.
This isn't exactly the CS or Dota team. It's a Christmas miracle TF2 wasn't shuttered 3-4 years ago (not because it's a failed product, it's still one of the most popular on steam, but it has almost no dev team). I would be content playing the game if they never released another major update. As long as they're fixing bugs, I'm fine.

You say this, yet MyM was somehow pushed to release.
The CSGO team is like 8x bigger than the TF2 team. (Of course i made that fact up but we know CSGO's team is bigger. Way bigger. A Valve employee recently tweeted that the CSGO team had to move to a bigger room).
I'm not saying that the CSGO team prepared for the potential consequences, but let's not be making assumptions based on an entire other development team's problems.

I actually like Danger Zone, from my first impressions (I haven't been able to get to late game because of crashes but...)
I appreciate the first person view, I like CSGO's gunplay so I'm excited to use it (I don't like Fortnite gunplay). It's also csgo movement so you can't just jump around and shoot like a madman and get a kill :)
I like that the parachute section is very quick and you're guaranteed to have some alone time when you land.
Of course, Battle Royale will never be a truly competitive (or for that matter, fun) genre because of the inherent RNG with item spawns but I think the downscaled size will help reduce the blatant loot gaps between different players.
Everything else about the update sucked though!
I'm actually finding this insanely fun in the 2 minutes i can get in before it crashes (there's a known crash, valve is aware of it)
However, I don't know if F2P was the right choice for CSGO. At the very least, they shouldn't bump up people to prime simply for owning the game. It basically obliterates the point of Prime, which was to have one phone number to an account and at least delay cheaters from continually getting in to the big boys club. If cheaters had a field day with the game when it was $15, imagine it now.
