yeah, out by hillsburrito. I don't know that I could help you guys, unless you need a backup occasionally for a scrim.
I will be rooting for you though!

I'm amazed you managed to find 6 players from Portland, there's not a lot of us around here.
Who are they?
UGC was never relevant in TFC- mainstream leagues were PFL, IGL, TFL, STA. UGC was kind of a red headed stepchild league that only came in at the very end.
Perhaps you re-installed TF2 but the folders causing the issue were still present? Try renaming your scripts and resource folders to scripts_bak and resource_bak to see if it fixes. If it does then you most likely have some leftover hud stuff causing issues. If not you can rename them back to normal.
viewmodel and first person particles being 'disabled' would be due to the console command viewmodel_fov 0. You can change it back to 90 if you wish.
I'd say it's probably more useful for soldier than demoman as it definitely helps tracking scouts. For me the reduced motion blur, smooth motion and a lot less visual tearing has made it a lot easier to track people when I'm jumping them.
at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if downpour disappeared into a UGC labor camp
You might try overclocking your CPU a bit (search for guides). You can likely improve your minimum fps a bit. I'm running an e6600 overclocked to 3ghz and I generally stay above 120fps except for high action times or pubs.
What's your mat_queue_mode set at?
as hard as it may be- you should probably sit on the money and wait a bit. Since your laptop seems to get the majority of the job done for what you like to play now, the longer you wait the more computer you can buy with the $900.
When I saw this thread I wanted to read all of the drama in the ugc forum.
Upon checking - somehow, there's not a single post about it? Are they the north korea of gaming leagues? An admin being vac banned would be all over the forums of any league I've ever played in.
just got my asus running @ 144hz. hoooooli shit the difference is so huge from my crappy lcd. I guess I didn't realize just how crappy my previous monitor is, because now everything is crystal clear in motion. Playing scout is kind of ridiculous...tracking feels 100x easier.
if stickies weren't so effective close range and so massively damaging it'd probably be more balanced. I think it's a little silly that it's possible to defend yourself so well close range w/ stickies.
The more people in the game, the more overpowered demoman is though. If valve ever tried to balance him for pubs he'd probably be underpowered in 6's.
hey pine, from what i've read the color issues/flickering lines may have to do with the cable @ 144hz. Are you using the dual link DVI or displayport? You may want to try a different cable if you can get your hands on one. I'm recieving my monitor today so I can probably see if I have a similar issue tonight.
pro: allows you to use something close to whitewalls and a higher fov, gaining advantages over other players in a game with intentionally limited fov
con: you're effectively cheating
It would be appropriate if people get vac banned for fov hacks and essentially white walls, both are clear advantages that require the use of an external wrapper/hack to get over other players. Fov is intentionally limited in tf2 for gameplay/class reasons.
