#309 sp00ky mge alts unmasked in TF2 General Discussion
blinK I remember when the list came out in TFC and I was absolutely shocked on some of the players who were listed you never would have thought. Nicest guys around, seemed totally legit.

I remember anticipating that list coming out and then being disappointed. It didn't really contain any of the top players in the game, it was primarily filled with players in lower leagues or those just outside the echelon of top players.

For a lot of the players flagged though you could tell they desperately wanted to be recognized as good. You'd always see them alias as better players or add top guilds to their aliases that they weren't even a part of. The prototypical cheater is the kind of person that would farm their own ELO and other weird shit to project themselves as a better player.

In tfc if you cheated in a pub it didn't matter, you were banned from leagues and ostracized from the competitive community. I don't see why the policy would be any different for you guys. Catching the aliased cheaters that tried to come back was incredibly entertaining...the sheer level that people will lie and develop stories so they can continue to play a video game is amazing. Too bad the legend of massacre/boost got lost with the catacombs. :(

#7 Business Laptop in Hardware

Don't get a chromebook if you're actually going to be using it for business/productivity, a chromebook would limit some of your software options there. There's a lot of windows 8 convertibles hitting the shelves now for sub 500, but i'd probably get a traditional one with a docking station if she is actually going to be dealing with spreadsheets. She should be using a second external monitor + full keyboard + mouse as her normal working environment if she wants to get anything done.

#19 240 Hz in Hardware
bearodactylIs this not literally just interpolating from the signals that it doesnt get to make it appear smoother?
Just like the tvs that say they are 120hz+ but just take a 60hz signal (not that tv is even more than 30fps normally) and makes up the new frames

No it is not interpolating, it does either frame doubling, or interlaces black screens to display 240hz.

http://gaming.eizo.com/wp-content/uploads/file/turbo240_whitepaper.pdf

People are jumping on this as if it's nonsense marketing- this is not like 240hz tv's. The method used should display motion better than 120hz w/o interpolation and the display itself will offer far better contrast and better colors than the current TN panels. Worst case it's basically light boost like feature built in with less color degradation when in that mode. Their backlight strobing is a bit different and seems improved.

#17 NVIDIA's G-Sync in Hardware

Hmm..I don't know that I would want to have a 30hz refresh rate if I am getting 30 fps- would that really be the case though when using G-sync?

#20 g400 Freeze (Not complete) in Hardware
MomotheMonkeyharbleulogitechs RMA policiy is pretty great. i just rma'd mine a week ago and all they asked for was the P/N number and some other stuff which you can find on the mouse.Really? I tried rma'ing my g400 and the lady said I needed to provide a receipt, which I no longer have. Maybe I'll try again and get someone more lenient? :D

If you ever purchased it online you can lookup a reciept, but yeah probably try again on their online support.

#37 Help with raging in Off Topic

If you're constantly raging at a video game it's likely not specific to video games. If you feel like you are a calm person outside of video games...just wait till you get married or in a long term relationship. Those anger issues you experience playing games will crop up, haha. As to how to help address it I think it comes down to achieving emotional awareness. I remember back in high school just taking a basic psychology class - the mere practice of studying how our brains process things helped me become more aware of when a strong emotional force was pushing me to react a certain way, and it helps allow me to identify those situations and kind of 'step back' from that moment. I do get annoyed in video games and frustrated, but I feel like ever since studying that long ago it helped enable me to intercept it at a certain point, take a step back and re-orient myself to the situation from a different perspective.

It's kind of crazy that the brain is capable of being aware of when the brain is leading you on :)

Mostly it's about making a conscious decision on how you want to live your life. People are going to do things that your natural inclination will perceive as malicious, or rude, or manipulative, 99% of the time those people have no idea that they are offending you at all. Unknowingly you are doing the same thing to people week to week.

I know people that go through life ALWAYS angry about something, or always angry about some personal relationship. It's absolutely exhausting and it never ends. At some point I would think they should realize that the only common factor in all of those engagements is them. You are going to be slighted, people are going to do things that will irritate you, BUT, you always have the choice of how to react to something, don't be at the mercy of your emotions.

P.S. My wife gets pissed off how calm I am.

Also I recommend reading books that have a philosophical slant to them. I read 'way of the peaceful warrior' my first year of college and still carry lessons with me from it to this day.

#62 Government Shut down? in Off Topic

been working at a major tech company for about 7 years- A lot of the movement to contract workers at least in my company seemed to occur primarily after the crash and continued from there. It's anecdotal but I haven't seen any acceleration to contractors since anything regarding obamacare. Recently there is actually a big push to hire RCG's (recent college graduates) rather than contractors (even though they are doing some layoffs at the same time....fun). Economic uncertainty seems to be the primary driver for hiring contractors...if the economy takes a turn it's much easier to let them go.

I'm not a fan of obamacare because it doesn't address the true problem. A major issue is that health care costs do not need to be advertised, they do not need to publish rates for operations, they basically can charge whomever whatever they want with impunity. One hospital will charge you $50,000 for an operation that another hospital will charge $4,000 for, for the same quality! You don't know what it will be until you get the bill. In any other business this would land you in jail, but some very convenient laws and exceptions have been put into place by friends of the industry. It's absolute madness and it's clear nothing will be done to actually address it, too many big players are benefiting from the current system. The fact that a business can arbitrarily put you under a lifetime of debt at their discretion with no checks and balances is just unbelievable, but yet it exists.

#177 Breaking bad in Off Topic

I thought he was going to do one last batch- it would have been so fitting. What a ride though...it's amazing how a story can feel like a part of you. Now that it's over there's an empty feeling today.

#124 IT'S COMING in TF2 General Discussion

Valve even implied in their second announcement that the third announcement was concerning input devices. Not sure why people expected something completely outside of this 'living room' push. This is cool stuff...may help blur the lines between console and pc gaming even further. I like the emphasis on everything being open that valve is pushing.

#4 Picking A Class To Main in TF2 General Discussion

Medic's can be rare...so if you enjoy it I would say choose that one as your 'primary'. People that truly try to master all the nuances of that class are in high demand. It's not like you can't still play the other classes regardless :)

#63 IT'S COMING in TF2 General Discussion

The best part about the half life series has always been the mod ecosystem around it- if they were coming out with a new engine that really improved the mod side of things that would be so awesome. For how great everything else they produce is, their tools have been consistently awful.

#2 Help with new Zowie FK, personal grip issue in Hardware

Your grip doesn't sound that strange other than describing yourself using the back of your hand. Sounds like a claw grip but the back of the mouse rests against the base of your palm? Short of getting bigger hands it sounds like the only way to address that is to get a smaller mouse, if you don't want to change your grip. But if you just got it you will probably adjust pretty quickly...so give it some time.

#62 Bible of MGE in TF2 General Discussion

Gary, 3:15: thou shalt not call thy enemy a faggot.
----
Paul's letter to the MGEbr0s:

Children of MGE- You will run into player styles that you initially find truly annoying, but generally it's because they're being very effective and you're having trouble dealing with it. Find appreciation in their craft and internalize that annoyance into trying to get better against it. If you don't have the fortitude and patience to take that step, !remove. This is better than making up your own arbitrary standards and insulting someone when they don't magically align with them. Some people play to improve general dm for competitive 6's, some people only play duels for their competitive outlet, some people play just to experiment and try new things or see how they test against the best players out there. You all have different goals and should welcome the rich frothy diversity of mge playstyles (except mantreads in endif).

If you can control your rage in mge you have found enlightenment- lifes problems will be mere speedbumps in your calm disposition.

------

Things I've been bitched at for in mge:
jumping someone too much
not jumping someone enough
not staying where someone thinks I should stay
fighting someone from below
shooting someone below me after they fall
standing in an advantageous position as a soldier
airshotting opponents jump after spawn
finishing someone off with a shotgun rather than a rocket
fighting from areas that are difficult to shoot back at
not knowing in advance whatever specific pattern of jumping eachother the opponent has determined proper in their mind

Things I've bitched at others in mge about:
...poor social skills?

inner peace is a helluva drug
