steam lagging on startup?

When I launched steam eariler today it acted extremely laggy. It froze up, crashed, and was pretty much unresponsive for the first 3 times I booted it up. I had to force it to close 4 times before I could properly launch it. In a mumble and some of the people in there are experiencing the same thing. Anyone else?
