Just finished up with the letters between Max Frisch and Stafan Zweig, it's interesting how they make their correspondence work in an age where phones were commonplace. Also they're both fairly witty guys, so each letter isn't just a message but also an assertion of status.

Anyway, I'm continuing my forays into early sci fi with Ballard's The Drowned world now. I guess it's alright so far :/

Obviously a dumb idea for TF2, but is there a game where you have a sort of medic class that sort of stores damage done and uses it to heal teammates? So you'd get something like a long range nailgun, deal 50 damage and use it to heal your team for 500?

Ech. Until extra time I would've said Portugal didn't deserve anything at all here. Funny how everyone said the French team's downfall would be their weak defense, but they did really well until the last 30 minutes of the tournament - France kind of beat themselves here. Still, props to Portugal, they managed to hold on without CR and took their chance when France got tired; glad this didn't end in penalties.

I get how reaching the major finals is a huge achievement for NA CS and Liquid especially, but I can't help but wish we'd had that huge fnatic/sk showdown instead.

To be fair, those cops panicking can be very much due to racism, even if they didn't have thoughts like 'ah, finally a black guy we can shoot'. If you perceive black people as inherently more dangerous and violent, you'll obviously reach for your gun faster than if you stop a white guy's car.

One of the least helpful thing you can do here is focus on individual officers and call them out as racist instead on bring the systemic racism within the police force and the poor training of those cops to attention. Extreme stress will rarely help you make sensible decision, and one of the easiest things you can do to stop black people from getting shot for no reason is provide cops with proper training for dealign with stressful situations, and ALSO make them understand that the kind of racism that effects these murders isn't always immediately visible.

I'm predicting France to take the final, but only if Griezmann is going to do a little better with his finishes. Neither goal really was due to him being that great, but he had a couple of really good opportunities he missed with weak shots.

With that said, I'm happy France won - the Germans had some crazy close misses, and they really need to do something about their hand balls, but Germany - Portugal would have been an absolute borefest, especially with like half the German team out.
