#93 Euro 2016 - France - Discussion Thread in Off Topic

I loved how hyped the Iceland crowd were throughout the entire game. Just based on crowd support, they definitely deserved this relative upset.

Was really pulling for Ireland there, the Swedes didn't look like they had a ton of ideas there honestly.

#45 Wisdom Teeth removal in Off Topic

Got them removed in pairs a couple months ago, with local anesthesia only. Surprisingly, getting a syringe in your mouth isn't nearly as retch-inducing as you'd think, guess there just aren't that many nerve ends in there. They tell you to put some music on so you don't hear the drill, but I'm not sure how high you'd have to turn up the volume to drown out a sound that reverberates through your entire skull.

It was still fine though and they were finished in about 10 mins each time. Second time the tooth went down to my mandibular nerve, which was funny because you basically start feeling pain in your chin, but not the rest of your jaw. Almost flinched and damaged something even further there. The numbness in my jaw was completely gone within a week though.

After the fact you get antibiotics and usually some painkillers. It's probably a good idea to prepare some soup and freeze it, you're not gonna want to do much cooking between drooling all over your pillows. One thing I cannot overstate is having good ice management - cooling your jaw pretty much all the time is key to recovery. For the right set of wisdom teeth, I neglected to prepare enough ice beforehand and felt like shit for a week, but the second time I made sure to have some ice cubes or a cooling pack on hand 24/7 and was completely fine two days after the event.

#17 Idea for heavy item in TF2 General Discussion
the301stspartanThe resulting heavy is an engineer with 300 health and no buildings and bad healing. A buffed soldier also has 300 health, but he has a rocket launcher. I'll take the soldier please.

-33% overheal means 400 hp fully buffed. Your points are otherwise valid though.

He's pretty obscure, you've probably never heard of him.

That was strangely calming. After a while, the individual blocks start looking non-homogenous.

The super close games that go down to the last round/second/kill are nice and all, but sometimes watching a good old-fashioned stomp just feels satisfying as shit. Nice how the finals had both.

#25 best way to stop eating in Off Topic
eee(usually some crackers and tuna)

The important result of going on a diet shouldn't be losing weight, but teaching yourself how to live a healthier life in general. Weight loss is just a side effect. If you constantly fluctuate between being on crash diets (maybe I'm misinterpreting 'crackers and tuna', but that's what it sounds like) and just eating whatever you can get your hands on, you'll never feel good about your eating habits. I realize that isn't what you're asking about, but the root of impulse control issues is usually people setting unrealistic expectations for themselves or making unrealistic plans to meet them.

Calculate your daily energy requirements (there are online calculators for this) and aim for a daily deficit of about 500 kcal. As echoed by others above, learn how to cook - you don't need to aim for a Guide Michelin star, but knowing how to make a good salad, sandwich or stew goes a long way. If you're having trouble with indulging in unhealthy stuff while you're out, prepare something tasty and easily portable at home (nuts, fruit, maybe a sandwich) and when you're craving food, just go for that.

Also, exercising is obviously a good idea, not entirely because it helps you lose weight, but because cardio exercise has immense health benefits.

Oh, and most It's Always Sunny episodes still hold up well, even though the new season isn't the greatest thing in the world.

#1034 PC Build Thread in Hardware

I got around to building the PC based on the advice in #1005 (thanks again for that btw), going with the 350W PSU. Everything went about as smoothly as you would expect, save for a bit of a scare when the rig wouldn't post, which in retrospect I think was due to RAM not being seated properly, although I ended up reinstalling all the non-essential components anyway. Thanks to the fellow that posted the https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap link, no problems there either. Dunno what kind of performance I'm getting yet as it's just now loading Steam games, but there's no reason to worry.

Thanks so much, that made everything much clearer. I did know about the DDR4/newer mobos relationship, but everything else was new to me and hugely helpful. I'll report back when I've got the rig running.
