m0nkeiI would not say that the skill ceiling of Overwatch is "crazy low" just because of the trailers. I can understand that in the gameplay trailers, the movement of the characters look pretty basic, but i think it's just to show the abilities of the classes, and not what you can actually do with them. Like you don't see the crazy b-hoppings in the half life 1 teaser or the crazy movements in the quake 3 arena trailer. We should wait for the game to actually come out because judging it.
Push button to receive free height advantage for zero penalties seems like a dumb mechanic aimed at casual players; which is fine, but it does lower the skill ceiling quite a bit.
Also Reaper's ulti for example allows him to be invulnerable and it auto aims increased damage shots for a set duration of time, which boils down to *push button to receive 4k*. Skill my arse.
A lot of characters have dumb abilities and design choices at the moment, I won't bash them too much as we haven't even got an open beta to form opinions on.
People look at some of the ultis and think "well the medic can make you invulnerable, deal triple damage and loads of other stuff!" but that's a poor comparison imo. Take 6s for example. A Medic can count Uber to judge roughly when the other team will have their charge, and if your Scout or whatever sees them run Kritz then you take that into account and play around it. In OW every character has an ulti that charges based on damage dealt, making it pretty much impossible to use your gamesense or anything to judge when their Reaper can fuck you over, or that jetpack chick can gain height for free and rain down a metric fuck ton of rockets that make the Beggar's Bazooka seem as precice as a laser. It's like trying to tell whether or not a Buff Banner soldier has his charge or not, but everyone has one. The skill ceiling is crazy low imo.
