#267 GXL LAN 2015 in News

Updated the rules and added lists. If anyone has any issue with the rules or updated information, please feel free to voice your concern.

Will there be a buy-in for the tournament?
Yes, it is $15 per person (or $90 per team). This is $5 more than last year, but Dashner and I put out a ridiculous amount of our own money into the prize pool last year. Instead of breaking our wallets again, the $5 increase should compensate a bit.
What will the prizes and payout be?
1st Place: 60% of total prize pool
2nd Place: 30% of total prize pool
3rd Place: 10% of total prize pool

The prize pool will be guaranteed to have a minimum of $1000. This means if less than 12 teams sign up, I will fill in the rest of the prize pool to make it $1000.

We are currently looking for sponsors and will be in talks with some soon. Depending on what and how much we receive, additional money and prizes will be applied to top 3, but may go to 4th place and beyond.
What maps will be in use?
cp_process_final
cp_metalworks_rc7
cp_badlands
cp_granary_pro_b10
koth_viaduct_pro6
cp_snakewater_final1
cp_sunshine_rc7
cp_gullywash_final1

#21 i55 vloggers, lend me your channels in LAN Discussion
lighthouseWow guys this is awesome, thanks so much!! What Shade said is kinda what I was hoping for out of this. I still love those 1-2 minute interviews or showing off a certain teams setup, but Shade's current 8ish second story containing only two pictures already made me laugh a bit lol. Looking forward to all the cool things you guys can capture with just a few seconds of video!

I'll also try to get some vlogs and random videos that I'll upload to my Youtube channel (which I rarely use for anything anymore).

Again, not sure how frequent I'll update them at the event, depending on if I can get access to wifi.

#260 GXL LAN 2015 in News

Rules, LFT list, carpool list, and other related things will be posted at some point this week, hopefully. I'm gonna try to do all of this before I leave for i55.

If I need any volunteers for any positions for helping out with the tournament or anything behind the scenes, I'll make it known.

#2 Is My Motherboard Dead? in Hardware

I'm assuming you don't have a motherboard with LED codes, because that would be helpful to see its thought process upon turning it on.

It sounds like it could be a motherboard issue, especially if you can't tell if it does anything at all upon turning it on. My roommate had a drink spilled on his computer, and his motherboard got ruined. Like your scenario, there would be no display and we couldn't tell if it got anywhere at all upon turning on. I would entertain the idea of taking out your video card and trying to use onboard video, just to make sure it's not some weird video card issue (honestly unlikely but you might as well try). Other than that, it sounds like it's the motherboard, which sucks. :(

#4 ESEA auto charging after cancellation? in Q/A Help

ESEA disregards these kinds of tickets all of the time. Good luck getting a response out of them, because they won't ever believe that it's their fault that it recurred.

LAN is about two months away. Anyone who hasn't already started to plan for this should start planning now.

#34 ESEA Allowing medigun pickups? in TF2 General Discussion
BumFreezewareyasteal uber when it's your own team's gun
reset picked-up uber when it's the enemy team's gun, and now it's yours
so you die on mid with 50%, but your team still wins mid and enemy medic dies too. then your med can pick up your own 50% again while enemy still have 0. then the enemy werent rewarded for their med pick at all :/ thats not exactly fair

This is exactly why it's a problem. Winning mids will always hold a ton of weight in this game. If you lost mid and your medic died, but managed to kill their medic, the round isn't totally lost because you can stalemate with even ubers. If a team wins mid with weapon pickup where both medics died on mid, it's almost like the winning team's medic never died at all. You'll have more time to set up a sentry or maybe even hold second point, but you're still at a bigger disadvantage than you should be.

In a game where losing mids can be unforgiving, allowing a mechanic where you're being punished even more for losing mids seems a bit senseless to me.

However, it's hard to respawn and get to your medigun on mid before it disappears on certain maps. Granary might be the hardest, even if you get forward spawn.

radiumHow many tickets are left? I'd like to order this next week.

I'd have to ask but I would guess around 150.

SideshowIf anyone (like me) was wondering what happened to poor fragile on the mid where he died instantly:

not his fault bless his soul

I remember dying to that, and questioned if sticky damage falloff became magically broken all over again. I only saw the sticky to the left of the stairs. :(

Steve, you're an okay guy.

#114 Dumb Competitive TF2 Trivia Thread in Off Topic
mustardoverlordhow is almost everything I said wrong? the only difference seems to be that you're saying blacky and not oplaid was the main force behind it, and that the esea admins fell in line really quickly and didn't need a ton of convincing

as to the former point, I remember that oplaid was the team leader so he was the one who talked most about it to torbull, and as to the latter point I never denied that esea weren't super nice about it themselves

What Dustin said was right enough, but I'll respond by going off of these two quotes:

mustardoverlordas to the former point, I remember that oplaid was the team leader so he was the one who talked most about it to torbull, and as to the latter point I never denied that esea weren't super nice about it themselvesmustardoverlordor s6 lan where oplaid got the admins to force a single bo5 finals instead of 2 bo3s for the lower bracket teams due to flight schedule and beat fanom that way

-oplaid was not the one who mostly talked to Torbull / lpkane, it was me. To my knowledge, no one (which would obviously include oplaid) from the other blight team talked to the admins at all. The other blight team took my word for the situation at hand.

-oplaid (nor anyone) forced the admins to do anything. It was purely blight's decision (primarily coming from blackymonster).

-A single bo5 was the format that the admins told us moments before finals, not 2 bo3s.

-The admins said we must play a single bo5 unless the other blight team agreed to do a bo3.

-Eventually we had to settle for a bo3 on blackymonster's terms (we can't choose Viaduct).

-"I never denied that esea weren't super nice about it themselves." Did I say you did? They were reasonable throughout the process, but we were just a little annoyed that we were given no time to warm up at all.

One could misconstrue that you made it seem like it was oplaid's team that had the bad flight schedules, but regardless, you were correct about the flights being the reason for the structure change.

No need to get super defensive about seeing how right or wrong you were, considering I was actually involved in the situation. I wanted to clear up some stuff that wasn't accurate.

#99 Dumb Competitive TF2 Trivia Thread in Off Topic
dummy-When my Pandemic lineup (reptile/oplaid etc) left pandemic for complexity, the owner of pandemic offered us like $1k to stay on the condition that we cut oplaid because he thought we joined coL because pandemic could no longer pay oplaids writing salary.

I thought Lemley said he wanted to cut Sam because he felt betrayed that Sam asked coL if they were interested in us. Maybe it was both.

mustardoverlordor s6 lan where oplaid got the admins to force a single bo5 finals instead of 2 bo3s for the lower bracket teams due to flight schedule and beat fanom that way

Pretty much all of this is wrong.

This was the only ESEA LAN (to my knowledge) that had lower bracket finals and grand finals on Sunday.

We (blight-fanom) had flights that left around 5 or 6 PM. When we realized there were lower bracket finals to wait for, we were hesitant that we might miss our filghts. We asked blight-own and coL to start a little early, and they said that was fine. However, they ended up getting there late and warmed up for a while, so they basically started at the time they were supposed to (maybe a little later, I forget).

The match went to all three maps. The first two maps took an hour each, and the second map took about 30 minutes. With breaks between each set, it all lasted about three hours or so.

We were then informed that finals were a single bo5, and the only advantage we had is that we got to pick the first two (or maybe three?) maps, and then the rest were random. We figured that because the first match took so long (and because there was a whole different match before grand finals on Sunday), we were running out of time. We asked the other blight team if a single bo3 was acceptable. Some of them were fine with it, some of them were indifferent, but blackymonster (and maybe oplaid) were adamant that they would only do that if we couldn't choose to play Viaduct (easily our best map).

We were at their mercy at this point, so we quickly agreed. While we sat down to warm up, Torbull forced all of us to instantly ready up. We had absolutely no time to warm up, even though the other teams did (on top of a three hour set), and we got fucking destroyed on the first map.

As I've said, I'm pretty sure this is the only ESEA LAN that had lower bracket finals on Sunday, as well as a single bo5 for finals.
