#18 Team Immunity i49au Video Guides in TF2 General Discussion

@ Beater - the plan is to include a full demo (with analysis) of each map after we do the attacking/defending segments. What you described was our original intention, but as the video is already 50 minutes long, including a clip for each of the examples would probably lengthen the video exorbitantly.

We toyed with the idea of splitting up the videos into even smaller segments so we could do this - but figured that it would be more worthwhile if people were able to watch the video through from start -> finish if they so desired. Including a full analysed demo (possibly with our comms?) seemed like it would be more worth it in the end as its easier to display the progression of attacking/defending and how the situations tend to merge together/flow into one another in a game situation.

Thanks for your feedback though :)

#1 Team Immunity i49au Video Guides in TF2 General Discussion

Hey!

As a part of our fundraising goals, Australia's Team Immunity promised to release a number of in-depth video guides with the intention of sharing our opinions with respect to how a particular map could be played, and the roles of the fundamental classes. These videos are being created with the generous help of Chaplain, and will hopefully serve to be a valuable resource for both new players, and those who are looking to improve.

These videos are made up entirely of our own opinions, which should be applied to the strengths of your own team, rather than taken as an absolute authority.

I'll be updating this post as new videos come out, and please don't hesitate to leave questions in either this thread, or the video's comments - we'll try to answer as many as we can in the next video.

Here's a full playlist of all of our video guides, and it will be updated regularly when a new video is made.

The first video has just gone live - along with a selection of "outtakes" - which you can view over at our youtube channel:

Thanks!

edit: for some reason when I try to add the defending link with youtube tags it just doubles up on the attacking one - despite the url being right? :/

#18 5cp vs KOTH vs A/D: Map Variety Discussion in TF2 General Discussion
AndKennethOzfortress does the same thing. Two maps a game (third being a tiebreaker, this differs from ETF2L), but only one game a week.

The problem with this as an example is that we've been lobbying ozf to change to 1 map rounds for ages :P

I think people are far too hung up on the idea of making sure there is "a wide variety" of map types - it shouldn't be about squeezing in an A/D or a KOTH map, the focus should be on assembling the best possible 7 or 8 maps for competitive play. The way the game currently stands the majority of players seem to feel that gravelpit doesn't fit in such a list - and for that reason it really should be excluded from the map pool. It seems like the community is determined to hold on to the past where gpit was a much more exciting map to play and resulted in some exciting upset matches - which is one of the biggest problems with gpit because no matter how good you might be at the map, there is too much of a "random" element with the A/D format.

@Slin - I really don't think a map deserves to be phased out purely due to one-way scores - and I think that removing A/D and KOTH altogether is a ridiculous suggestion. The way the game is currently played Viaduct is easily one of the better maps in the competitive pool, and the issue here isn't arising from the fact that the game has variety, it's arising from the unwillingness of the leagues to listen to the community about which maps are best for competitive tf2.

tl;dr - gpit is old and stale, focus should be on the best possible map pool regardless of format - if another good A/D map comes out that deserves to get a spot then it should, same for any CP/KOTH map.

#78 How to Get to In-Game Comp Lobbies in TF2 General Discussion

Blatant x-post from the thread over @ ozfortress:

The issue is that 6v6 is a very strict format - if you think about the logistics of forcing the majority of pub players (valve's focus) to play either medic/scout/soldier/demo in the staple 6v6 competitive style it's going to be miserable.

I'd be a lot more excited about something like this if there were less focus on "new exciting weapons!!!!!" and actually introducing pub players into the competitive sphere. It would awesome if valve was willing to run a standard 6v6 matchmaking system alongside this HL stuff - especially if people could queue for both and if 6v6 was marketed as the staple competitive format.

I think that valve's position that 6v6 is stale and boring - "the competitive format is currently too stagnant" - just because people have worked out the "best possible" competitive weapons/set up is extremely disappointing. It's basically confirming what everyone has been saying for ages - TF2 is never going to be considered a competitive game by valve. Ironically because it is too "boring" and the only "strats" that the company are interested in come from the blatantly pub weapons. If valve were interested in promoting competitive change in TF2 - especially 6v6 - all they would need to do is look at the Gunboats and how they changed the game and go from there...

This matchmaking system will probably see an increase in interest in competitive TF2, with players filtering from pub -> highlander -> 6s... but the focus on weapons and weapon bans is only going to inhibit the progression of the real competitive aspect of TF2. I hope everyone has given up on a new badlands-esque game changing 5cp map and is excited for some brand new payload maps to facilitate these super fun and exciting weapons in highlander.

tldr - it's alright

#53 The Australia/New Zealand i49 LAN Fundraiser! in TF2 General Discussion

It's been a little over 48 hours and we've already hit our 5k goal! The generosity that the global tf2 community has shown has been truly overwhelming, and on behalf of everybody in the team I'd like to extend a very humble thank you to everyone who has donated so far, supported us on the forums, or wished us the best of luck in this endeavour.

With 38 days to go on the fundraiser we can shift the focus to reaching our stretch goals, so expect some exciting developments in the near future!

I've also tweaked some of the perk capacities to account for community interest so far - we don't want anyone to miss out on something they are interested in purely because we underestimated the popularity of certain perks.

i49 here we come :]

p.s. I'm getting worried that I'll have to find something positive to say about snakewater

On a personal note, I'd like to extend a thankyou to everyone in the community who has been supportive so far. I'd also like to thank the people who have helped get this endeavour off the ground, specifically Abender, sti, wm and the ozfortress admins, enigma and mana from TeamFortress.tv, and antwa for not being too upset with my 4am banner image requests.

Thanks :)

Help a team from Australia and New Zealand attend i49 in the UK!

It's finally here! The stage has been prepared in Telford, UK for the biggest intercontinental Team Fortress 2 event with the attendance of the best teams from North America and Europe already confirmed. With your help we’re hoping to broaden the scope of this international competition at i49, and facilitate the first contest of strength between the three biggest scenes, with the inclusion of a team from the Australian/New Zealand Team Fortress 2 community.

In return for any kind donations we've prepared a range of perks and community stretch goals which can be viewed in detail here.

The initial support from both ozfortress and the global community has been extraordinarily humbling, and if we are successful in reaching our goal we're hoping to represent the community to the best of our ability on the biggest stage ever prepared for Team Fortress 2.
