gun control would've prevented him from shooting the people he did a lot more than "increased mental illness awareness" would have. It would've also prevented numerous other tradgedies that have occurred in the last 30 years.
every system the US has had when dealing with the mentally afflicted up until now has been no better than our current system, which basically doesn't exist beyond offering welfare for (some of) those that are unable to support themselves.
