Hi all
So since I've scoured all of google and plenty forums prior to this, it's finally time to post about it asking for further assistance.
A few weeks ago, while playing TF2, my game got crippling lag. Mouse movements were sporadically unresponsive, audio would sound glitchy, as if frozen (think: going to a demo tick sound repeating, but much worse), and the screen would freeze. This happens every few milliseconds, and doesn't stop.
I soon (not so soon) figured out that Mumble was in fact causing all these issues. What makes it worse is that upon closing Mumble, the problem persists until I restart my computer. My computer works fine until I even so much as run Mumble, and then very shortly, 2-3 minutes into usage, my computer starts crapping on itself. To clarify, this is system wide lag. My mouse teleports, audio glitches, and the system runs much slower. However, it's very sporadic, although quite constant and crippling. Also, something to note is that input causes more lag. So, when I don't move my mouse, the computer lags less, etc.
Things I've done to try and fix the problem, in no particular order:
- New Motherboard (when I said not so soon, this is what I meant)
- Reinstall Mumble
- Downgrade Mumble
- Uninstall Mumble, delete all registry files associated with Mumble, reinstall (both downgraded and current and beta snapshot version)
- Running Mumble as administrator, running in Windows XP service pack 3 compatibility mode
- Running with one core affinity
- Running with process importance set to Low (since Mumble runs on High by default)
- Checked for viruses
- Updated sound drivers (and others) from the motherboard website
I've probably done more things, but in summary nothing has worked.
It sounds to me like a hardware issue at this point. The odd thing is, I've had no problems for ~two years, and all of a sudden it started a few weeks back. No idea what could have caused it, no changes I made that would stick out.
A friend said it could be my onboard sound card, and tentatively suggested that getting a sound card might fix it. I'm hesitant to spend more money, especially after buying a motherboard (which was before I diagnosed Mumble as the culprit).
Any help really is appreciated. It kind of makes it difficult to start playing comp when I can't use Mumble. Frustrating, more than not being able to use it. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Also, if you know somewhere to point me in the right direction, please do
Edit 2: Appreciated*
