I'll be landing at 10:40a on Thursday. Glad this all came together so nicely.

CU@ as well. Coming in on Thursday.
These threads come up way too much.
If it's concerning enough to come here and whine to the mostly medical education free TFTV masses, its bad enough to talk to your primary care physician. Get thee to a doctor.
Might be a hernia, kinda sounds like it. Torsion less likely, youd be in agony most likely. Either way don't risk your balls.
This saddens me deeply. I've met a lot of people in my years here, but you were one of the best. I am a better person for being able to call you a friend. I hope you find the success you work so hard for and are happy, happier even, for moving on. I hope our paths can cross again some day.
Paramedic for an urban fire department. I also do a little ubering late at night when I can't sleep.
RhettroIf it is manageable it seems like a good idea to give the invite teams their own group in the tournament, especially when the games are single elim
If we have enough invite/good teams, the format will likely be an all invite group with them all moving out of it into the bracket (to maximize fun games for everyone). The prize money is kind of secondary here, this tournament is for people to have fun and for us to show off the platform we've been working super hard on for the past few months to try and drive traffic to Stadium.
Re4lityI like this event but i doubt it will help make stadium popular and if it does it will just close the doors for faceit tf2 to become more popular and will probably separate the community even more. I like Tf2Stadium but i also want Faceit to become the major lobby system for tf2.
I think they target different demographics. TF2s is a small community site dedicated to pick up games in a relatively casual and low stress atmosphere. Faceit is for more advanced competition and tournaments. There is room for both in this community and the two split up the TF2 competitive player demographic fairly well.
Moist_Penguinna or eu?
This will be NA, apologies for not clarifying further in the post.
What problem are you solving that isn't solved by esea or ugc? This is not a big market and player base dilution is a real concern, especially when we need to keep esea numbers high.
What does your technology stack look like? How are you allocating or controlling servers? Automatic statistics and demos? Stv relays? How are you paying for this stack?
Being a league admin is hard work. Running an entire league is a full time job and even smart people make bad decisions if they aren't experienced (we've had a few tournaments ran like that in the community). The math for league matchups and tie breaking is not hard, but doing it wrong is really prevalent. What admin experience do you have? What does your admin team look like? How much experience do they have? How will you rank teams and decide tie breakers? (You should see my ELO spreadsheets from 4 years of TWL admin)
These are some intro level basic questions that if you can't answer now, you need to before anyone can take your project seriously. I'm not against a new league by default but merely having an idea and throwing some WordPress plugins and rented tragicservers instances into a blender isn't enough.
if yall need any day of help at the event, give me a shout, I did servers/admin for GXL for a few years and miss it
TsarbucksSe7endrshdwpuppetI don't know the numbers off the top of my head but I would be willing to bet that for every person you prevent from getting a heart attack, you could use that money to treat 10 people for pre-existing conditionsunless you have a source it's really retarded to try to use this to augment the strength of your argument.
Considering drshadowpuppet is a paramedic, I'm willing to take his word for it.
I was spitballing numbers and not making a good argument per say. For something a little more serious (though still not proper research) we can take some stuff we know. This study indicates that emergency events (ranging from simple TIA to full STEMI with hospitalization and subsequent death after ICU stay) cost from 17 to 125 thousand dollars per instance. Lets say an average of 70k (note this is what is charged to medicare, not the outrageous bills we see on reddit).
Simvastatin can be had for 12 dollars a month. If started early and combined with diet and annual checkups, many people don't need any other drugs to control their high cholesterol. Lets throw in metoprolol for hypertension (13/mo) and metformin for controlled diabetes (20/mo). This is your average unwell adult, millions of these people everywhere. People that take these medications and control diet with some exercise can expect to live normal lives. Thats 45/mo, 540/year, 21k for 40 years. Add in a few grand for doctors visits, but you still hit around 3 prevented incidents per. Its not 10, but also consider that these people's lives are immeasurably improved and more productive, and that those are the rates for my high deductible plan at my closest pharmacy. I am sure that a single payer plan might be able to negotiate down those prices.
My number (hyperbolic as it was) was incorrect, buy my point was not.
Anyone who thinks that America doesn't currently have "socialized" healthcare is delusional. Every single tax paying citizen right now is paying for the care of millions of underserved Americans.
You think poor people don't get care? What they don't get is /primary/ care, they dont see PCPs, dont get prevention treatment for hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes etc. Poor people get those diseases too (in fact, they get them more frequently). So when they have a stroke, or a heart attack, or a mental break, or their legs swell up and they can't feel them anymore as their lungs slowly get drenched with a frothy mixture of blood and sputum and they drown on dry land... they call 911. They call 911 and go to the emergency room and receive emergency care.
Emergency care is by far the most expensive kind.
So when people say we can't afford socialized health care... we already do, what we cant afford is to keep doing it. I don't know the numbers off the top of my head but I would be willing to bet that for every person you prevent from getting a heart attack, you could use that money to treat 10 people for pre-existing conditions
The stories you hear out of Canada are awful. But what you don't hear is the stories I hear every day on the streets in one of the poorest urban parts of Midwest america.
As is per my usual, I will be going and anyone who can either get to Indianapolis or is situated somewhere on the line from indy to Mechanicsburg (Dayton, Columbus etc) is welcome to hitch a ride. I have access to an SUV so 3-4 people + full computer set ups or I am not opposed to renting a 15 passenger van.
