It'd be cool if the "Show all threads" button switched to a "view forum index" button when you are currently in the all threads view.
jerryjigglerWow right after I leave the bay area.
Kudos to anyone who knows where albany is.
NY? lol
joined both at zero and they are both full :]
Alleal@frkn, I don't accept that as an explanation. If 4v4 is as superior as you all claim, then why aren't you playing on it? Because it's not populated. If Sniper and 5v5 are crimes against DM, then why do you play on the eXtv ones? Why do you tolerate the random spam, which everyone seems to consider bad enough to swap the functionality of two DM classes to avoid? The obvious answer is that it is tolerable. That the advantages of being on a 5v5 server (more players) is worth the disadvantages (random spam). Why there are more players is something we can argue all day and all night, But the fact remains that random spam is so minor a disadvantage that nobody can be troubled to make the switch.
Why am I not playing on it? Because I barely play tf2 anymore. I hopped in Fog's chicago server today when it was empty and it was full within 5 mins. The eXtv servers have been around for longer and have more people willing to join when empty because they will definitely fill up fast. If people take the time to join Fog's the same will happen.
Do you think startups replace current market leaders overnight without effort? No. The fact of the matter it is, it takes people willing to sit in an empty server for 5 minutes to make it happen. Sometimes nobody wants to do that. Doesn't mean the market isn't there.
The reason Fog's servers are empty isn't because they are any worse than eXtv's, it is because eXtv's servers were around first.
Fog is doing it right...the community is doing it wrong.

Yo, I'm looking for a team to play with either for ESEA S14, or CEVO or something. I left the team that i was pocketing + main-calling for in S13 after 1 match because I don't want to devote 4 nights a week to tf2 anymore. Ideally, I'd want to scrim 1 night a week + matches, so obviously not looking for a super serious 5 days a week team. Been in 6s for 1.5 years, 2 seasons of open, made playoffs once.
add me dudes
edit: I can play any class but I think I'd prefer roams. Seriously though, hit me up for anything.
I dunno but I'm in aerospace engineering and I have time for video games and friends. My gpa is barely over 3 but I'm okay with that.
Invite only seems silly. There are plenty of great plays in IM (even open, but I can definitely understand the problems that come with that).
Invite/IM/Prem only seems like it would limit it to reasonably good plays but would also make clip shortages much less likely.
Here's what I think my ideal path to learn competitive would be.
1. pub (to familiarize with classes, mechanics, gameplay objectives)
2. watch matches (to learn very basic game sense)
3. soap dm/mge/jump (to get dm JUST high enough to not be completely put off in first 6s game)
4. newbie mixes
5. lobbies (just a few)
6. pugs AND find a team/scrims
7. review demos
Once well into tf2 career, order of importance is (IMO)
scrims>demos>pugs/dm/mge/jump
Once you find a team, pugs are completely optional assuming you scrim regularly. If you enjoy them and feel you learn, then great - you should play them. If not, scrims will be enough.
