#1 Looking for Maptest participants. in Map Discussion

EDIT: Had to take the discord link out cause too many people were trollign with it, please add me for the discord invite :)

Hi there everyone.

As most of you know by now im working directly with many Map Developers on their 6v6 oriented maps. All these developers are extremely hard working and creative people and have amazing maps to be played and I need a larger list of people I can use for testing!

I have been running map test pugs during the mid afternoon before scrims and I would like to find more people involved around the mid IM+ range (low IM is fine). This is a preferable skill level just to keep everything even in the pugs and provide the most accurate play testing and will be able to abuse parts of the map better than others which will more distinctly demonstrate changes needed in said maps.

If you feel you fit this skill range, and you are interested in helping map developers and also playtesting some very fun maps that could be at the forefront of 6v6 in the future, please get involved!

Join my discord here;this is where playtesting will occur and also a channel providing all updated versions of the maps. (Notifications on for this channel is preferable so i can @everyone when testing happens) all server info will be provided for you when the pugs start!

Also add me on steam and express your interest so I know to message you if i need more people/you want to discuss the maps in general :) https://steamcommunity.com/id/emceeLbp/

Thanks everyone! if you have any questions please don't hesitate to post or any maps you would like to see in future post them as well!

ProSkeezI can't get over the whitelist pugs that were continously brought up last night and continue getting brought up. They played for 45 minutes with 3-4 playoffs Invite players and keep wanting to conclude that the items were tested at a high level

Some of these very same people weren't aware of the attributes of some items that they had supposedly tested

I equally can't get over the people who never tested any such items in their existence in TF2 and then refuse to believe that some people who played the items with multiple teams and lists for 2 and a half hours don't know more about those items than the people who have literally never used them.

please man. the testing may not have been super in depth but the same people bitching about the players not doing enough play testing weren't exactly rushing in to help get the weapons tested lol Phantom has been asking you all the play these pugs for weeks.

if you're not willing to test, do everyone a favor and just shut up and let the scrims in the next weeks do the testing. This thread is actually pointless, more theory this and theory that. It serves literally no purpose.

#11 ESEA Season 30 announced in News
YeeHawHardly accurate to put all of the valid criticisms that have been raised down to ‘bandwagoning’, also the creator of the map says she doesnt want to be involved with the community anymore, are we meant to know telepathically that it actually is being worked on behind the scenes?

it is definitely accurate to put the negative feedback of this map in the bandwagon mentality because there hasn't been enough playtests from a majority of players to prove otherwise. If players don't want to be put into this category then they need to show a willingness to develop a map instead of shit on it from a couple playtests before they even know the meta of the map (which is very true here, don't bother saying its not)

She literally stated in her departure statement and her Statement on TF2 maps that she would develop this map because of its inclusion she just isn't partaking in the competitive forums anymore.

Quote from TF2maps statement from Phi

PhiCardinal will be receiving a major update sometime within the next month or so. There will be many changes.

I will be swapping out most of the Frontline assets within the map for specific custom assets created by a small team. The Frontline asset pack does not seem to have any updates planned to continue to fix the optimisation problems present within. Cardinal is, as it stands, an enormous map exclusively because of the Frontline assets and I would like to cut down on filesize.

I do not feel like the Frontline (ex-)team is continuing support for maps using the theme. Considering the amount of contributors within the pack, and the extensive amount of workshop percentage I would have to provide to all of them for using their assets, I did hope that there would be more attention given towards maintaining the theme in a resourceful way.

As a result I must part with a majority of the assets in order to maintain continuity in my map's theme, and I will be building new assets with the help of people who I know will be dedicated to this project.

I will only be posting updates to the map on TF2Maps from here on out. Cardinal will stay viable for competitive play, but I will not be involving myself directly with keeping in touch, and will not be working with anyone directly within the scene in the future. This is a personal choice.

The map will be getting a thematic overhaul, essentially. Due to time factors originating from university work, the schedule is uncertain, but I am aiming to complete RC2 before the new year.

Cheers

#9 ESEA Season 30 announced in News
bearodactylScratchhhey fellas can we have the map system back where its 1 map for a week and it cycles through the rotation pleaseThis and remove cardinal (or replace it with propaganda which was by far the best of the new maps), the second point is so bad on cardinal it has potential but really needs to be updated. The only reason it was allowed to be added randomly in the first place was because of the map veto system, but it's got some pretty big flaws and I'm pretty sure nearly everyone agrees that it's not good enough to replace a proper map in the pool (b4nny seems to be the only person who wants this and is at a bit of a conflict of interest given he made it with phi lol, it was pretty much universally banned this season cause everyone realizes it's not good)

I posted about this in another thread but I very much don't think we should be forced to play cardinal in the regular season and it should just be removed, it's not even getting updates anymore what is the point? I see zero reason honestly. I suppose if someone else decided to update it maybe then we could entertain the possibility of playing it, but it needs a lot of work first. Aside from the second being a disaster, the last is way too hard to push and there are some pretty broken sniper sightlines that make it aids to push out of last cause the main lane to walk up to point puts you directly in the skghine of a sniper in mid who walked out of forward (imagine badlands choke didn't have a spire to block medics walking out trash and side spire)

youre kinda putting words in b4nnys mouth here. He is a supporter of the map yes but he has never said the map is in a good state and has even suggested huge changes to second (like you are referencing) and this map is actually still being worked on behind the scenes despite Phi's departure from the comp community, she has stated she will see this map through.

the map is universally disliked for the same reason all new maps are universally disliked; people are uncomfortable playing new maps and don't play the map enough to really learn it and have a meta for the map develop. There is problems, of course, that is what development for. But to say that cardinal doesn't fit the current flow of the game more than say granary or badlands I feel isn't an accurate statement. The map is made by an incredible good and competent map designer who has made extremely good competitive maps before and despite what a majority thinks, there are more people out there than you might know that actually think this map is playable and has potential, it just doesn't see play because of the bandwagon mentality.

give the map more than a season to develop, let changes come and let a meta develop and you will see the map improve. This is the exact same scenario all the current staple maps have gone through. Every. Single. One.

To be fair we did 2 playtests with yosh (one of the best snipers in NA) and he didn’t find these angles very abusable, from what I can remember. Also yes I’m 100% sure you can take splash damage off the back wall behind these windows, the shacks in front of the windows also balance it out because the player on the shack can deal the damage to the player in window but the player in window can’t reliably deal damage back due to the angle of the shack

smesifrom last night's new map showcase, this seemed like a favorite to replace a map from the current esea map pool from the discussion that happened after the matches were over, so it interested me to dl the map and give it a run with what it seemed to be the fastest rollouts for middle
prob some of these were already discovered by the ones that played or watched the streams last night but hopefully it helps somebody, sorry if i got anything wrong
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_2wmB_zdtM

These are interesting, but you have to keep in mind the majority of your team and the medic spawn on the left so for demos and roamers if you roll out on the lower or top right door you will have way less buff to work with, also since you spawn on the left I’m pretty sure it’s actually faster to rollout far left
