Tery_lucrativeconsidering literally half the IM teams died in the first 2-3 weeks last season I think the change makes sense. Really never understood moving up that many teams in the first place, just causes the skill gap to become way too far apart and actually gets people confused if they are mid-high open or low-IM anymore, so its not really as competitive as it could be with less move ups.
You're not talking about S21, are you? There were only 6 dead teams in IM at the end of the season. 2 of those 6 were dead before the season even started (and I think one of them didn't even have 6 paid players but the roster stayed active for whatever reason), 3 more died in the opening 2-3 weeks, but that includes the hilarious Salty Spitoon fumble. And then lastly, pokemonizepic's roster made it to week 7 before dying. No one should care about the skill gap if the division is not healthy, and last season was relatively healthy. The priority should always be having a sustainable IM division over a competitive one; especially with matchmaking coming, we should be trying to make the push for a Main division again. That would certainly help iron out the skill gap "issue" you speak of, but that won't happen without getting a populated IM first. If nothing else, they should at least explain why they changed the promotion requirement after S18 to all 16 Open playoff teams, and then reverted going into this season.
P.S. The BLANC roster will be used / active.
first off, 6 of the roster move ups never made it to season (Puck Fat, K-Man Fan Club, rip john wayne kayc, pwr rangers, Blasty Blast, waddlesquad, as you can see these roster names are not listed in IM S21) and the 7th was moved to invite (Bugs). your dead teams from this season include (really dont care about when they died); STOPERR K.O.T, IM, The Twilight Zone, Dildo Gaggins, maelstrom team, creative juices, and EPS and Durex both played their last matches but had over 4 FF each through the season.
So looking at numbers, a total of 16 move ups, 6 of which never happened and 7th went to invite leaving 9, of the 9 remaining 6 died and 2 mind as well have been dead leaving an amazing growth increase of 1?
If you think that this is somehow beneficial for a DIVISION BASED LEAGUE then you're delusion, pretty much every open move up that played this season was shit and just diluted the level of competition within the division and has also made it wayyyyy too easy for shitty teams to steal an IM roster because they "think they are IM level."
Literally the best change to make here was to only make 8 rosters available, there is nothing beneficial about having a bunch of hopeless open roster move ups into a division of HIGHER level because these open players think it validates their time spent playing in open. Makes no sense and everyone outside of the top 6-8 in IM this season wouldn't even have done well in open playoffs S21.
