glassi'm curious about this. i completely suck at rocket jumping on left surfaces using stock, does that have anything to do with it or am i just bad? right surfaces are no problem. always been confused by that.

the rocket on stock + stock variant rocket launchers comes out of the right side of your screen, which means when you turn backwards to jump off of a righthand wall you have to turn a significantly smaller distance than if you turn to jump off of a lefthand wall. this doesnt apply for the original, because the rockets are dead center for the original

my sister lives in santa barbara and knew people who were shot by this guy, and knew a few people who died second-hand. pretty terrifying to think that had she been in the wrong place that day she (as a blonde haired blue eyed girl) could have very easily been in his line of fire. elliot was definitely a headcase, but places like bodybuilding forum enabled his behavior and made it so much worse.

my top 5 are gru, disciplinary action, wrangler, crit a cola and flying guillotine. full time heavy would be miserable, wrangler is just clearly overpowered and scout doesnt need major buffs. if anyone wants me to clarify anything i will but i think all of those things are pretty straightforward and agreed upon.

VulcanOh yeah, and why are most dm servers capped at 8 players? What's the reasoning behind this?

dm fights are pretty chaotic as it is with 8 players. the servers could be made more efficient if you doubled up the number of mids on each map, but then that would require custom maps and download servers and a whole bunch of other nonsense. the only real solution to this would be to change the spawn points in a way that would make it possible to have unique fights going on at different parts of the map, but that seems really complicated to do well and would probably just be more annoying then useful.

the friendly fire idea is bad too because time to kill can be so long in tf2, it would be worse for practice if it were easier to bait in dm because then idiots would just play scout and wait for 2 players to get in a confrontation and then 30 damage chip each of them to death

its not "stalemates" in the classic sense that people have an issue with. its long periods of sluggish gameplay where one team is defending one point and another team is repeatedly attacking that point. attackers have an inherit disadvantage when attacking a point, and that is only made worse in a/d with the no-downside full time defense classes

competitive players severely underestimate how difficult it is to create a map, and to expect mappers to waste hundreds if not thousands of hours working on a map that is ultimately very likely to be disregarded by the competitive community is absurd. it's hard enough to get the most straightforward traditional 6's maps (see sunshine) tested rigorously enough to actually improve them, and even then its so difficult to make the right decisions (see logjam) that most maps end up abandoned after hundreds of hours of work, or stuck in development hell on the timespan of years.

it does seem like we're in a little bit of a renaissance of competitive mapping right now and that there is a slightly larger interest in nonstandard game modes (especially with the advent of mapchamp, which i wholeheartedly believe is one of the most important things happening for competitive tf2 at the moment) but it's still important to recognize how difficult it is to make even a passable competitive map, much less one in a nearly completely untested gamemode like koth or a/d.

#3 How to improve solly movement? in Q/A Help

there really isnt any great advice for this question other than to practice. try playing dm and never play high ground/never rocket jump, which will force you to work on your footwork and be unpredictable on the ground. play scout in pugs, many of the concepts of being unpredictable as scout carry over to other classes but scout will force you to learn them more constantly.
