#1 Looking for a medic (team name tbd) in Recruitment (looking for team)

Hello everyone.

I'm currently re-branding what was formerly Wu-Tang Financial (Seasons 12+13) to play in S14 of Open. I've captained this roster for the past two seasons (team history: http://play.esea.net/teams/61245) - and finished both seasons at 9-7 (we had some early upheaval in both seasons).

I've been tinkering with lineups all offseason, and I've found something that I feel can work well going forward.

The current roster is as follows:

Medic: YOU?
Pocket: radium
Roamer: frkn
Demo: swedes
Scout: crossfire
Scout: thoof (from That Ain't Falco way back, not to be confused with THIEF)

I'm looking for a medic that has excellent communication skills and attitude. We can correct and move forward from bad positioning - I cannot fix a bad mouth. Mechanics shouldn't be awful, either - as long as they're good enough to hang around the top half of Open you're fine.

Thanks for your time, and I hope to hear from a few people soon. I want to end this search ASAP so that I can build understanding and be match ready come week 1.

#11 Just The Tip - LF soldier, demo and medic in Recruitment (looking for team)

They barely missed IM this past season, and they won't be missing out again. There are some good players here - but they need a commanding medic that has some tactical nous to give it all direction.

#162 National Day of Silence in TF2 General Discussion
kaceSneakyPolarBearSeems like a day of open discussion on gay rights (NOT on the offensiveness of the word "faggot") would be a lot more beneficial in terms of preventing the ostracism of gay people than a day of silent solidarity with LGBT youth.
I agree with this sentiment. However, it is very difficult for a lot of people to talk about this sort of stuff openly (and not just on an internet forum). LGBT is still an awkward conversation a lot of times (and a hostile one some of the times), especially when you are or think you are or know someone who is lgbt. By all accounts, I wish it wasn't. Still, Day of Silence recognizes this difficulty and allows people to show their support for lgbt individuals such as myself without crossing a bridge they are not ready to cross for whatever reason (and I'll say that they have good reasons).

What we must also realize is that LGBT is already making headlines left and right so it is difficult to keep it out of conversation. I believe that the Day of Silence is becoming rapidly antiquated.

You know kace, I'd say that it's probably a difficult conversation even for those who ARE LGBT (and speaking to one another). I've known a few people that have serious issues touching base on their sexuality in any way, shape, or form. Our society has made such a thing taboo - and we're taught as boys (whether straight or gay at birth) that there is one right way to live.

Whether we believe that to be true is our own prerogative - and it's a prerogative that we're lucky to have in a free society.

#131 National Day of Silence in TF2 General Discussion

In my opinion, the National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is far more positive than the National Day of Silence. Those that are "kept silent" need to be able to talk. It's the first step that a gay man takes towards integration with the general human population.

Personally, I wish that there wasn't such a "wall" established between the gay community and community-at-large. "Separate but equal" has never worked in modern American history - and it's not going to work in regards to LGBT rights.

#127 National Day of Silence in TF2 General Discussion

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ken-schneck-phd/why-i-try-and-fail-to-support-the-day-of-silence_b_3081283.html

Good article as to why I find this day of silence to be a bit problematic. Non-disclosure is NOT the way to go about social integration - especially when the group of people at hand (the gay community) has been told to sit down, shut up, and act straight for the longest time.

Staying silent does nothing but extend the torturous double-lives that people have to live when they are gay and are placed into a straight world.

I would just love to be in a world where it is accepted as another healthy permutation of humanity - and nothing more/less.

#31 Seahawks will win the SuperBowl this year in Off Topic
AbramelinYou have ten seconds to explain why the Ravens won't repeat as Super Bowl champs next season.

Go.

Boldin. Gone. Lewis. Gone. Reed. Gone. Furthermore, there are more personnel losses on that team than just those three.

The Ravens locker room will lack the resolve that it had last season. I think they'll win a pile of games, but there is very little chance that they'll gut out anything come playoff time.

They're a good organization, but replacing so many lost stars is going to take a lot of time.

#11 [mid-high Open] Top Gluttons looking for a pocket in Recruitment (looking for team)

Everyone keeps on talking about Block like he's some kind of superhuman...

He's certainly a good player - he IS high open - but I think you're selling the rest of this team a bit short when you elevate someone like him on such a high pedestal. I've played against them twice on teams I was ringing for and I can already tell you that beating this team isn't as simple as stopping "the Block show".

#15 Passive vs aggressive scout roles in TF2 General Discussion

It might be a good idea to define roles early on if you're a lower-level team. With that said, after a while you should be able to occasionally flip those roles mid-match to confuse the opponent.

A passive scout should bomb in from time to time - even if it's not his strong suit.

An aggressive scout should know to pull off from time to time - even if it's not his strong suit.

Roles are just guidelines for performance. They're not laws by any means.

#22 return of GXL lan in LAN Discussion

I'll be going. I must say it will be nice to have a TF2-guy tied into this LAN - we'll actually have a system in place that will make sense for 6s TF2.

#1 radium lf pocket mentor in Mentoring

Hey guys. I'm looking for someone to watch a few old match demos with, as well as someone to ask a few more map-specific questions to.

Maybe it will get to the point where you're spectating scrims in a few weeks - maybe not. We'll see how well things go when it gets there. Add me (or PM me if you know me already), and we'll talk further about specifically what I want to work on and how much time you really have.

I'm looking to change how I address the game for s14 - and attempting these changes have shown light on new weaknesses that I didn't really know that I had to begin with.

#18 High Open/Low IM Scout in Recruitment (looking for team)

Aww hey there zephyr!

Great guy, I've always had fun during the times that I've been around him. Pretty good player too (when I last faced him two seasons ago).

Good luck in your search.

#50 College in Off Topic

If you're strapped for cash you can always apply to do distance learning through a number of different schools. Take 6-12 credits a semester while you work and cover your own way. It's tough, but possible.

There are a number of reputable universities that offer this as an option. Penn State, NC State, Oregon State, Arizona State, Missouri... ...you have legitimate options out there that are not ITT Tech.
