#149 TF2 Rewind LAN at Esports Arena - Jan 21-22 in LAN Discussion

Esports Arena Rewind

Hello fellow kids,
There have been some recent changes to the event I wanted to update you guys on. Firstly, I wanted to let you know that I’ve been hired at Esports Arena as Jr. Esports Project Manager, Events. As part of my new role, I’ll be taking on Rewind as my first project.

That being said, we have some SPICY new info for you guys to sink your teeth into:

-Sponsorship
Once again Marketplace has proven to be the most faithful sponsor of the TF2 competitive community by raising the stakes! The total invite prizepool now sits at $7,000.00, but we expect it to rise again in the coming weeks, so stay tuned

-Signups
Team signups for all tournaments will open next week, keep an eye out for an official announcement from Esports Arena! If you purchase a tournament entry, you will also receive LAN access for the weekend, including Friday the 20th (PCs are first come).

-Crowdfunding
“But where do I put my money??” you may be asking yourselves. You can support the event by purchasing Esports Arena offerings (like a studio tour, for example), or donating money directly to the prize pool, all through YouStake.com. YouStake has offered to donate $1 to the prize pool of the specific campaign for each donation/offering purchased under that campaign. This will go live with registration. There are test pages active right now, those are not live.

-Hotel
We’ve decided to make our home for the weekend at La Quinta Inn Santa Ana! They offer a free airport shuttle from SNA John Wayne Airport (ask hotel for details).

Hotel Address:
1515 South Coast Drive / phone: (714) 957-5841

Below is a summary of your group:
Between: 1/19/2017
And: 1/23/2017
· Guest Room Rates:
Standard Room with 2 Double Beds: $85 per room, per night, plus tax

Reservation method: Please contact the Group Desk at 1-800-642-4239, Option 1 and ask for the special rate for “Rewind”. Reservations must be made no later than 12/29/2016 in order to guarantee this special rate.

Notes:
-Coaching rules have been determined: no coaching plugin will be used, coaches will only be permitted to consult with teams during pauses or between rounds.
-Interested in the Open tournament? Good! All donations to the tournament campaign through YouStake are being cut 20% to the Open prizepool, and the Open finals are being streamed on stage.
-Invited teams: you do not need to register, your entry fee is waived. Please see b4nny if you have any questions.
-Streaming is allowed and encouraged while the event stream is not live (before/after stream hours, and Friday).
-There are gas stations and fast food walking distance from the hotel, as well as a bar and grill that’s open pretty late: http://www.spoonsoc.com/. Downtown Santa Ana (DTSA) where the Arena is located, is home to some of the most hipster spots you’ll find in Orange County, if you swing that way: http://www.downtown-santaana.com/

As always if you guys have any questions not covered here, please feel free to add me on steam or e-mail me at s.emery@esportsarena.com.

Do we have your permission to use this for Rewind? We're building our own overlay but would love to have this!

randoWhat teams are actually going to this?

we hope to have an answer to this soon.

on that point, i know there's been a lot of waiting. please trust that we are really doing our best to try to get the laundry list of "soon" items seen to. guaranteed we're working on this 7 days a week (we were on a conference call thanksgiving morning). there are a lot of moving pieces and we're doing our best to get solid 100% info before anything is announced.

thank you guys for understanding and i promise everyone involved is working to make this as kickass as possible.

dashnerBe grateful that anybody is spending the thousands out of pocket to come from Europe to help out with this event.

This. We're incredibly fortunate to have such great casters who are willing to come out (on their own dime) and make this event so special. None of our casters are local to SoCal, even Slin will have to make a trek down from SF. We're very, very lucky to have each and every one of these guys.

sounds like FaceIt is giving 6s the exposure that valve isn't. like all things there will be growing pains, but isn't that the point? if we just push out everyone that's new we're actually literally never grow at all.

if everyone from pugchamp and tf2c went to faceit, there would definitely be enough of a playerbase to make this sustainable. also think of all the people who get shamed or booted out of tf2c for not knowing enough. everyone has to learn somewhere, and if this allows higher skilled players to play amongst each other and lower skilled players (like me) to get some actual practice against people more my speed. that sounds ideal.

the most troubling part about that list is that as stomach-turning as it is, it isn't as surprising as it should be.

What is the cost of the Holiday Inn per night (without any special deals for the LAN). On the internet the one in Santa Ana approximately 1.5k away is around £150

Yeah without the deal it's just standard rates. The deal should be coming soon, it's worth to hang tight for that.

I also looked at travelling on the Metro using Metro Trip Planner, whilst it isn't suitable for going to and from the Airport, after the event I want to visit some places, it looks fairly affordable, would people say this is a reliable website for information?

I haven't used the metro here and idk anyone that does. Without a car, my main mode of transport is uber. just don't let anyone bully you into tipping them. uber is the only thing here we don't tip for.

I assume as we're in a built up area lots of places to go including cheap supermarkets.

While it is a highly populous area, groceries for some reason are pricey here, especially compared to the UK. You can probably find some decentish places in Santa Ana but it may take hunting. There are tons of places to eat and drink within a 2 minute walking radius of the venue, however. If you guys are ever in need of recommendations feel free to come find me/ ask people who work at the arena.

Will we be able to go to the Scientology Church across the road and mock them?

They will often come around and pass out fliers. They're actually quite lovely.
