#29 when was the last time we used esea pugs in TF2 General Discussion

About ESEA's stats pages: they're pretty dated, to be honest. It's not that hard to take all of the data that obviously exists and turn it into something a bit prettier and more useful than what's already displayed. Every alternative to ESEA pugs feature a better stats system by providing things like kill matrices, classes played, round summaries (how control points were captured, etc.) and such. TF2Lobby has been around for years, but still has the best stats page simply because it displays more than numbers. I can understand if ESEA doesn't want to make drastic website changes to include fancy jquery charts and graphs, but at least include more information than what's there. Things that are useful to know are healing spreads, KA/D (much more important than KD), classes played, weapons used. All of this information is recorded but not displayed, and would just be nice to look at - especially for players just learning the game.

Also, last time I did a pug there was no pre-game DM; if there is, why don't match servers have it?

MemphisVonNo it doesn't. When was the last time you heard someone say that they are playing TF2 because of ESEA pugs?

It will bring more money yes but not more players. There is currently no reason for a new player to want to play an ESEA pug over a pugna, tf2mix, or lobby.

He's not talking about them in their current state. Lobbies are a joke, tf2mix is mostly new players, and pugna is either all IM-invite players or all openlords at any given time.

The newbie mixes are currently the best pugs we have going on, because they bring in new people, attempt to bridge skill gaps, are easy to get into and don't cost anything.

enigmawhat concrete changes to the ESEA pug system would make you use it over the alternatives?

The only pugs I've played in have been from friends asking me to join them; other than that, I just don't see a reason to use ESEA, as they don't really do anything to make it easier than jumping into IRC and waiting around to get picked.

Things to add:

1. Pre-game deathmatch (obv)
2. Some way of deciding teams/classes through the website/client perhaps.
3. TF2 crashes for a lot of people; it's already been mentioned that you can't leave the pug without there being consequences. There should be some grace period for people to reconnect.
4. As far as I know, there's no sub system for pugs in case someone has to leave, but I can't be positive on this one.

#1 If You Had Fun You Won #2 Need scout/demo! in Recruitment (looking for team)

So zephyr already made a post about this, but unfortunately, he's become too busy doing things like getting up at 5 am to chop wood and getting large at the gym for the ladies, so he's putting TF2 on the backburner (what a jerk).

Anyway, moving right along: I might be making the switch the demoman for my team, but we're really just not sure yet; either way, we need two players.

Pocket: dash (literally a 14 year old TLR)
Roamer: Final_Light (literally tall)
Demoman: synchro?? you??
Scouts: you?? synchro??
Medic: kig (literally the #1 Nutty Professor fan)

Backups include, but are not limited to, guan and zephyr.

If you're interested, let me know. We're looking to practice 4-5 nights a week and tear it up in IM; if you think you've got the stuff, or something, we're interested. Please be experienced, easy going and handsome and/or funny.

#23 just one more scout in Recruitment (looking for team)

I don't know if this was obvious to anybody else but spadez is looking to play in invite otherwise he is staying with his current team. Seems kind of odd to make a looking thread under those circumstances, but maybe that's just me.

#3 How to beat a super team in TF2 General Discussion

Wait for the season to end and the team to disband :P

Really though, I think that's kind of the point of it being a super team; it wouldn't be recognized as such if there were an obvious way to take them down. Typically, beating a well-known team works by exploiting a weakness. For instance, LG obviously weaker when they don't have b4nny up (not only is he their demoman, he's the holy crux of the team), so trading a scout and roamer for that pick can sometimes lead to a won fight, even though the trade is bad at face value.

Mixup just doesn't seem to have that weakness; there's no one player that stands out as being the best or worst on the team. When one person doesn't seem to be at peak performance in a round or map, another person seems to just play that much harder.

Mixup's biggest advantage is their coordinated deathmatching - sure, ruwin and enigma are crazy good, but so are the other scout combos in the game, and the same goes for every other position (Chess Club is admittedly weaker in basically every department, but they're also considered fresh talent to the invite scene). The key difference is that they're always in the right place at the right time, much like the checksix of seasons past.

To break through mixup's solid play, LG will have to force individual players out of position and work together to take them down. To me, this means playing defensively and not quite waiting for a mistake, but rather creating one; using two or three people to force a scout or roamer on the flank into a 1v2-3, and jump like crazy on that advantage. Midfights will just have to be about pushing ruwin and e` away from the fight, while still putting pressure on platinum, something I think b4nny is best equipped to do out of all demos at the top. I'd let Dave just babysit the flank rather than trying to go for uber forces, as TLR doesn't seem to know the meaning of "bad uber". Tyrone's really stepped his game up from what I've seen, but I'd still like to see b4nny being the pocket and Ty being his sexy escort, being more of a bodyguard than a point man.

Offclassing and kritzing might be a way to score some rounds, but I honestly think LG will have try more than just the standard stuff. I don't know why I even wrote all that because I'm probably not saying anything new/interesting/useful/correct, but whatever, figured I'd make a last post before I went to bed. No matter who wins, I wouldn't expect a complete stomp - we all know LG's tendency to step up to the plate at LAN.

#14 re: ESEA S12 Viewership in TF2 General Discussion

John's involvement is probably one of the biggest and best things to happen in a while, alongside this site being put up. We owe a lot of thanks to you in my eyes, Twitch.tv is obviously one of the biggest names in esports and the fact that we're getting favoritism is pretty damn cool.

#23 in b4nny we trust in TF2 General Discussion

Higher damage numbers also tend to correlate with longer, closer games - anybody doing more damage means there's more time to do damage, which means this LAN has "better" games than the last. As long as that trend keeps up, I'm happy.
