#49 triggerbotter streaming right now in TF2 General Discussion
MapleI remember a lot of hacking controversies in this community, particularly the wire frame analysis of Powah a while back. And while it seems pretty obvious this guy is not legit, hitting literally all but one shots of the parts I saw, I still struggle identifying certain movement or aim patterns that indicate hacking. So normally I keep my mouth shut because I don't know if what I think is a hacker is just put into my mind from the outside, or because it genuinely looks fishy. Anyone have resources for identifying exactly how hackers' behaviours differ from good players who can land flick shots?

if you give the youtube video posted a few posts back a view, you can see more subtle tells like when he's maneuvering around the map. he doesn't check flanks or corners unless somebody is there. pro tip, if you plan on hacking while playing competitively don't use wallhacks. you will fuck up, and probably consistently.

#4 Does turning off Steam Overlay increase FPS? in Q/A Help

there used to be a huge FPS hit (talking 60%) when a steam (or any) overlay would popup, like a message. it hasn't happened to me in a long time, that might be what they're talking about. think it got fixed.

the box should scale with the amount of buffs. less clutter and it's more eye catching for when somebody actually has something on them.

#3 Help with streaming in Videos

1. look into overclocking
2. game source is ideal if you run in fullscreen mode. edit: even if you don't, you should use this. i doubt you have many uses for overlays if you're just starting to stream.
3. what bitrate are you encoding at? even though your upload could easily support a proper 720p bitrate of near 35000, don't put it above 3500. 3000 is probably fine, and your CPU shouldn't have any issues streaming and playing TF2 at these settings. if for some reason it does, keep your bitrate at 3000 and lower your FPS to 50, FPS is the bigger performance hit of the two. it'll still look smooth enough.

#7 Planning on reformatting in Hardware

if you're lazy just backup the entire appdata folder. although if you're as dumb as you say you are with internet browsing and download, look through these and delete your google/firefox folders and whatever else. this folder is where most of your software settings/mumble certificate/ect save.

because I play with much different keybinds, I go through the folders of games I regularly play and backup all my configs. doubt this applies to you if you use generic wasd/ect.

edit: documents/my games/ games have started putting their save files into here, another place to look at for backups.

i don't know if you completed it or not, but I think they tried making it clear his friend wanted him to die. that explains why he didn't bother turning into him or tossing him something.

#8 New stream sidebar in Site Discussion

i had the same idea when the website launched, except for game updates. it would look pretty much identical, except it would link to change logs, probably have the latest update date in parentheses or something. could evolve it into an automatic forum post when updates happen, so you don't get people racing to be the first to post "NEW UPDATE!!!"

#58 Spec Tools in Projects
BLoodSireOne idea: Since the HP bars can get cluttered up, the only 1 I find useful is the one for the med. This really helps visualize (especially in first person) the progress of a players pick attempt on the med. Additionally, with only 2 bars floating around throughout the map, it would always help visualize the safety or danger of either teams medic.

So my question is, is it possible to display the bar only above the medics?

Perhaps a button you hold down to hide all visuals except for the medics? That way specs have a easy way to see the medic specific information at a click of a button.

text is a bit big, and the black box even more so. probably wouldn't even need that black box if you just give the text an outline. would be pretty cool if when the spectator looks in a direction, if the center of his screen is X degrees close to a person, that persons name fades in no matter what distance they're at. might be weird if they're across the map and you're just flying around, I guess.

#35 i never noticed ruwin was moving to csgo in Off Topic

oh. i didn't care enough to watch the video or read much of the thread, so I don't know the backstory. still think people are taking it a bit too serious.

i don't get the hate he's receiving. he streamed for a couple hundred of you people daily, turns out he wanted to stop doing it, so he did.

who cares if he sells the things given to him.

#35 Facebook bought Oculus in Off Topic
obe_Great thread over on /r/truegaming regarding this.

http://www.reddit.com/r/truegaming/comments/21czz1/oculus_is_going_social_facebook_bought_oculus/

I personally respect the optimism. I'm just really worried about what this means for the games. :\

nothing. literally all the oculus is is a monitor, nothing is stopping a game dev from rendering the game twice (once for each eye) and feeding it to the VR headset. you don't even need oculus libraries to do it, although they do make it convenient.
