#21 register page in TF2 General Discussion
Geknaiirenigmacertain amount of game time played or certain amount of tf2 played or owns a non-free gameWouldn't that new steam game sharing thing allow alts to own a non-free game? Unless that gets taken out, then it might be a problem unless an admin is allowing people in by hand.

http://mysteamgauge.com/account?username=turtlemcgurtle

doesn't show family shared games.

If you multitask a lot with memory intensive programs (adobe anything, visual studio, ect) I would go with 8gb myself.

zephyrI also feel like the CEVO site has next to no fluidity to it, it's a headache to navigate. If they want our presence they're going to have to make some changes to ease the process of finding a team/scheduling a match/registering a team etcetcetc..

anything in particular? i googled the site just now to check it out and I feel like it's okay, definitely better than ESEA... i was actually able to find what I wanted aha.

smite is hosting a 100k tournament for their games release, can we expect at least half of that for this first opening season of TF2 CEVO?

:P

Reservoir_dogc) Cry about money loss when you travel to LAN - welcome to European world people, we don't get jack shit for attending "i series", yet we go there every year, get horribly drunk and comment how English women look like dinosaurs.

i did not expect this and actually almost spit my drink out from laughing so hard! thank you, haha.

Soapturtsmcgurts-snip-
There is a huge difference between an anti-cheat program skimming through local files on your computer with permission to copy, edit, and upload, than doing what a proper anti-cheat does which is check to see if there is unauthorized code hooking into your game (simplified). We don't fully know what the ESEA drivers have installed on our computers. All computers running the ESEA driver could be on a botnet for all we know.

Regardless, when you install Steam you have acknowledged that Steam needs to install files on your computer because...well thats what a content distributor does. However, when ESEA secretly reserves the right to edit local files on your computer without clearly informing the user (through means other than the EULA), then that is very poor business practice to say the very least.

Finally, I don't know who wrote your code but that looks nothing like a anti-cheat program. Is that real or did you write that?

(And this doesn't even begin to address the fact that ESEA's admins knowingly mined bitcoins on their customer's computers)

I did a little googling and arrived at a thread that I remember seeing earlier today, and it was a place that Papasmurf had linked to.

http://teamfortress.tv/forum/thread/14006-meatshot-8-vol-5/11#post-229503

seeing as how you sound more knowledgeable in the area than me... what's the difference between how ESEA and VAC work, besides VAC being seemingly more tame when it comes to searching for files, but how could we ever know for sure!?(hurbotnet:p) In my post I didn't mention anything about memory because it wasn't relevant to the point I was trying to make.

edit: i didn't mean for all of this to sound a tad sarcastic, the first part below the link was fully serious, as it was in my original post. i'm more than happy for somebody to explain to me why I was wrong so I don't look dumb in the future.

KevinIsPwnfrownyITT people refute every argument with the word malware.
It's a pretty good refute imo. My files are my files. A league shouldn't be looking through them. My processor is my processor. A league shouldn't be able to take control over it when I'm not looking.

ESEA committed an enormous breach of privacy and trust. I personally don't care if you play with them next season, but I certainly won't be.

i haven't read much of anything relating to ESEA too closely, just glancing through these threads. has there been any actual evidence of what the anticheat is doing with your files?

When you goto your steam library and click the "Find Games on my PC" (or whatever it's called, where it lists non-steam games/applications on your PC) you could say the exact same thing. steam is accessing nearly every file on your PC because that's just how searches work (kind of how a anticheat would look for known hacks on your pc?). it's going to access all of your files getting information from it (name, checksum, ect) and comparing it to what they're looking for from their database. in the case of a antivirus or even anticheat, if it detects something malicious it will likely upload a copy of it to their system so they can further investigate.

unless there's evidence of esea doing anything malicious with the files, they aren't any worse than steam/literally any antivirus or program that looks for files on your PC in nearly any way as far as I am concerned. i'm not trying to say the bitmining was acceptable, it clearly isn't but it's been dealt with already.

this is basically a rerun of the whole Origin shenanigans from a while ago (which was proven to be completely harmless). if i'm wrong with any of this please tell me, i'd like to not spout false knowledge in the future :)

edit: a quick example of how the search could work
http://pastebin.com/Z0aycwGD (pastebin'd because these forums don't keep the formatting)

edit2: I also guarantee that CEVO's anticheat (do they have one?) will do exactly this. you can't say "Hey guys, I want a anticheat that doesn't search my files or processes! Thanks!"

#171 AG Supports CEVO in Expanded League in TF2 General Discussion
Kanecoturtsmcgurtsi agree. seeing as how nearly every teams server runs sourcemod for DM/MGE a person could add code into those plugins (as they are open source, although that doesn't matter with the decompiler) to give advantages to him/his team. nobody would be able to figure out about it, either. edit: i also think the only way to check what plugins a server is running requires rcon access

also the CEVO guy just said that it costs nothing to use one of their servers for matches, so I just don't see why not.

the funniest thing I can think of a person could do would be adding a random chance (10%?) that when they're shot by an enemy scout/sniper, that the shot does no damage. as far as the other team knows, the server has shitty reg. you could slightly increase the rate uber charges to shave off 2-3 seconds (for all those times that you die at 99%!) edit: could have the plugin inform you when the other team offclasses, have it keep you updated on what the other medics uber is, ect. kind of fun thinking of all the possibilities, aha.

What? I have played for 5 seasons on ETF2L which has over 300 teams per season and 99% of the matches are played on the teams personal server and I have literally never even heard of any try to manipulate the server to any team advantage. There are more than 2000 oficials per season and it has was never even reported or heard of. I think you are making this issue up (not in the sense that it can't happen, but in the sense that it has never happened as far as I know.)

good thing I said 'could' and didn't even try to claim that it's a 'thing', right? :p just to play devils advocate though, perhaps the reason it's unheard of is the fact that only the person hosting the server would know. i did completely make this up though, friends and I joked about this almost two years ago talking about how easy and undetectable it would have been.

pls let this argument die here, it's already been taken too far through misunderstanding.

edit: forgot a few words.

spaceghostpurrpI think we should be forced to play on Cevo servers. It doesn't give one team "home court advantage".

devbefore cevo even considers league fees, they need to see how season 4 which will (supposedly by all these forum posts contain WAY more players than what there is right now) will pan out. If season 4 of cevo becomes a success and great alternative to esea, then they should consider implementing fees for the next season/s to come. But for now, they don't need fucking league fees.

I agree with this. The next season should be donations only, while the following becomes $12 entry.

Somebody on the first or second page mentioned someone who claimed they would put up $6,000 for a new leagues prize pot? Take $3,000 of that and put it to the prize pot next season (including whatever other donations come in, of course). If the season works well and people are pleased, CEVO sets up the $12 entry fee for the following season. They will have plenty of money to keep people interested, while being able to look into LANs. Worst case is they have another $3,000 from the initial donation for another free-to-play season to continue trying to figure things out. whoever's talking about donating 6,000 is crazy though :p

hi a friend and I are going to be dipping into this game and were wondering what a good combo would be class wise, and what the farming map is right now. last I played it was some crypt one where you ran around with a snow-storm around your wizard breaking the vases and resetting after 30 seconds.

i like monk, is monk viable?

#10 League change poll in TF2 General Discussion
alfunksothere should be about 500 players registered in ESEA not counting backups considering the number of teams in the different divisions.

team leaders please show this poll to your oblivious teammates so we can have a representative amount of votes. anything less than 250 votes and we will accomplish nothing more than "this season's threads complaining about ESEA".

I think if you were to get all of the invite/main, the rest would follow. or they'd stay and collect the free money. :p does cevo have a prize pot? (i don't pay attention to anything tf2 related besides this forum)
