wat
crumpetwho needs jokes or humor when we can just laugh at this fat asian guy dancing i mean come on its funny because everyone says its funny
It's funny because of its absurdity. Replay value comes for people who like an easy and absurd dance move.
Turn off steam cloud maybe.
I'm not going to lie I still feel like a hipster when other people dance/sing it because I watched it while it was still 303 views (or whatever the frozen view count for day 1 is, 302 maybe). And I feel awful for feeling like a hipster.
crumpetbrownymaster There are valid reasons for this.
yes, because there is a 20 millisecond difference in reaction time between genders in the most athletic people in the world, women cannot be competitive with such prime male specimens. truly, shining examples of physical fitness; models of masculine prowess.

Not even mortal men can compete with him though.
kiriok so that wasn't 100% serious
but probably the biggest reason women don't usually make it past open is because of the widespread sexism that is either actively promoted or passively tolerated by virtually all of the influential figures in the community. why bother to put in the effort to improve for a community that's hostile to you from the start because of something beyond your control? most people aren't that invested in a video game
Then it's like the Negro Leagues, when black were oppressed from MLB.
Either way, comparing this to the special Olympics was pretty harsh. There are valid reasons for this. That's all I gotta say.
EDIT: Just for final reference:
-There are physical differences. They aren't known to matter significantly for playing TF2.
-Even so, they're minority and underrepresented/seen in leagues.
-Negro leagues had a physical difference (white vs black is a pretty clear physical difference) that doesn't technically affect gameplay, still helpful/ok thing to have for the time.
-If more women end up playing TF2 in bigger and more serious leagues, the better. Maybe this league won't be needed or will generally be a clique thing or for charity events.
-This event isn't trying to make women seem like they're mentally retarded or physically handicapped compared to men, so no need to whine about it.
G1Just cause you're not running or using strength doesn't mean playing video games doesnt involve physical effort.
Hand eye coordination, reaction times, "aim", all that stuff matters. It's not anything against the female gender but those attributes are all weaker in females just like how strength and other athletic abilities are weaker.
Looked up reaction time studies, don't know how accurate they are, but here's one on Olympic competitors:

I do think physical abilities go beyond hand motion/muscle movement/reaction time, and probably includes decision making. Decision making difference is hard to gauge. Still, I think statistically men have an advantage aside from things involving flexibility. Maybe it's because of social factors? I don't know. Hormones? Who knows, too lazy to research. I still don't think the difference is enough for a serious tournament, but this isn't one.
Renhet#23
They don't put forth the same amount of effort as male players generally. I don't know why that's hard to understand. It has nothing to do with gender whatsoever. When I had the time and internet to pour more time into the game, I was better than most of my male friends and could go toe-to-toe with people that had been playing longer than I had. I put together a team, including one other female, and I think that with our resolve and our Invite mentor, we could have one day made it to LAN. It didn't fall apart because two girls were on the team, it fell apart because my pocket disappeared, our prodigy Scout chose real-life sports, and our versatile caller dropped off the grid.
You were pressing physical differences being relevant to video games, and now you're changing your tune and grasping at straws. Those statistics don't prove anything other than, hey, guys play video games more than girls. What a revolutionary notion!
We're not a poor minority, most girls just don't give a fuck. There's no reason to be treated differently.
So what exactly warrants being treated differently? I just spit out various reasons you could be treated differently. I could come talk about celebrities and race and what not. Would having celebrities in those charity tournaments be elitist? No, it's what people want to see. If some people/girls want to play against other girls, why not let them? It's not just a competitive situation, it's heavily a social thing. If this was a serious league maybe I'd care, but it's not. Which is why, like you said, most girls don't give a fuck as much, so they have their own thing. Like I'm pretty sure that there are paid sports leagues from YMCA or something that intersect with middle school/high school and the same age group (meaning no physical reason to separate) but don't play together. The atmosphere is different. There are many reasons for divisions and it's not trying to belittle you.
Like I personally don't feel this event is very serious, seems like more of a for fun thing. If it is actually super serious with something beyond small bragging rights, I'm sorry and maybe you are right.
Then where are all the invite women teams? Even if women were* 10% of a the gaming population, I'm pretty sure less than 10% of invite players are women. There's a statistical reason for dividing it, because the skill/division level doesn't seem to be independent from gender. I mean yeah you could legitimately argue social factors and all that (because I think that's a huge factor in reality), but the fact is males dominate competitive sports. This one tournament is trying to bring to light the minority gender of players that are also a huge minority of high level competition in games in general.
Even if it isn't because of physical reasons, it's still to help show a minority.
RenhetExcept the Olympics are divided as such because of the physical differences between men and women. This does not apply to Team Fortress 2, or any video game.
So you're saying there is no use of physical motions when playing TF2, which might be affected by the physiology of a person? Do you think that invite illuminati of every game is at it when there's basically no pro females in most games?
As a guy, I resent girl-only tourneys. Why not participate with guys in leagues that already exist? I think being the best of both genders warrants more bragging rights. This feels like the Olympics.
Seriously Renhet, go lobby the Olympics. They divide sports into men and women. Would love to see men's and women's sports combined and rarely see a women even place. Things like tennis, yeah women can still compete with men. ESEA is like that. Doesn't mean there can't be gender divided sports/games.
