#5 Reverse sniper script in TF2 General Discussion
kirbyI'm sorry for not being of any help, but why would you want to shoot only when you release your button?

Releasing the button is a valid way to do things. It's like charging a shot, except just purely preference.

Unfortunately, there's no way without wait (unless you get a macro/hotkey program). Wait should never have been banned :( (I'd rather have valve fix exploits surrounding it instead of banning it to prevent exploits).

#20 NOOB PUGS: a groundbreaking social experiment in TF2 General Discussion

#19 outlines it pretty well. If you have the commitment go for it though.

If this made rockets and hitscans go through players, this should definitely be allowed.

Your group might as well play in normal #tf2mix or something, as there's almost always an experienced player. Just as for helpful advice while playing.

#8 Windows 7 Upgrade Issue in Hardware

scroll down to workaround 1.
It may or may not work. Good luck mate!

I've always done the double install method :\
that is till I got bunch of msdnaa keys from school.

I felt bad because he could have search the site himself but got you to do it for him, but then I realized his username was relevant.

#2 Impatient scout problems. in Q/A Help

I would say watch a stream or stream vod, but realized I don't know any scout streamers :x (shrugger's stream might have some vods, though he's been streaming other games recently. meb also should have some scout vods). I don't think just watching a demo will help you without having the mumble comms to go with it, as a lot of what a scout on flank may do will depend on comms (timing flanks and pushing with the team).

Someone recommend some scout stream vods for him ><.

EDIT:
Meb's twitch has some vods: http://www.twitch.tv/mebrillo/videos

frailbodTickrate and server fps are both locked at 66 fps
Anything that claims to be "500FPS, 1000FPS, etc" for TF2 is a lie

http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5831

For a VPS I would look at a ChicagoVPS 512MB Xen (I found it for $3.5/m). Don't waste your time messing with the kernel.

Their TexasVPS is still TBA (seems to be a branch from newwave or something) :(. Also, their deal is about the same as eoreality's but lower specs (the $40/year one I found, and there was a $4 off code that I don't know how long lasts). Not an ideal location for me.

procyonI think server FPS is now locked at 66, which is the same as the default tickrate value of 66hz.. also, WMP trick on windows doesn't work anymore. I wouldn't even bother trying to change kernel stuff, as it will probably make no difference.

I think that's only tic rate, server FPS should still scale past 66. I really only want 500 FPS because the server seemed to give better lerp than at 250 FPS, but I guess it's not that big of a deal.
Nvm, FPS is still capped. But the RT-kernel should still increase performance, although I probably can't do that on a VPS.

He lost the green cap way back though, so you have you use the newest one with it.

#8 Getting horrible frames with a decent gpu in Hardware

If anything, your CPU is capping you. For the lower fps in TF2, have you checked if autosettings changed? It might have detected a better GPU and increased your graphics settings unless you're already using a config.

atmocheck on lowendbox.com for VPS deals with >=1024 MB dedicated RAM (not burst)

make sure you read the comments on the deal posts as there are a lot of dodgy VPS providers out there

then just use this http://stevenbenner.com/2010/11/how-to-set-up-a-team-fortress-2-dedicated-server-on-ubuntu/

You should reread my post, I was already using lowendbox and looking for those specs ><.

Thanks for the link, but I don't think it'll be as useful since some VPS's only have centos/debian or something and there's already good documentation on the official site.

w0rdupbut seriously, don't fuck with the kernel on virtualized boxen, shit will probably get fucked up and your host will be extremely angry

I'll probably ask then before I do it then (I could live with a 500Hz sys tic rate). I never bothered to look at whether or not those hosts specifically allowed you to do it, but I'll look more into it.

FogThe problem with running a game server on a VPS is that the load will disrupt the performance of not just your VPS, but others on the same box if you don't do your research.

I know two of them seem to be able to handle the load based on what their forums said (one I have no clue), although if all the users were running them I'd probably run into problems. Also, it's the main reason why I shot for 1GB+ dedicated ram since it's probably shared by less people, even though a Source DS uses about half of that RAM.

w0rdupi would not recommend following that guide on any vps, it could seriously fuck with the parent and/or the instance and most hosts would probably yell at you. if you wanna fuck with the kernel get a dedicated server and for the love of all that is holy make a server image

also: http://www.liquidweb.com/StormServers/vps.html

alongside great performance we also offer proactive monitoring of ssh, mysql, http, icmp, etc, and not to mention our great support :D

Way overpriced for me. Could probably go for a $5 VPS host and a normal gameserver package at that rate.

#1 vps recommendations in Off Topic

Anyone here have any VPS recommendations? Going to see if I can host a server, mumble + website on a VPS. I've looked around at a few place/forums, but I know that there's a lot of people familiar with VPSes in the community so I wouldn't mind getting some input if anyone is familiar with them. All of these are located in dallas, and found off of lowendbox.com (VPS site). I've checked the ones below to make sure their ToS allow gameservers/VoIP.

eoreality is $40/year ($3.33/month) w/ a promo code

Ram: 1024mb
RAID-10 HDD: 25gb
Bandwidth: 1TB
Port Speed: 100mbps

dotvps is $5/month

Dedicated RAM: 2048 MB
Disk Space: 50 GB
Bandwidth: 1000GB
Connection Speed: 100 mbps

evolucix is $7/month

Guaranteed RAM: 1280 MB
Burstable RAM: 2048 MB
Disk Space: 20 GB
Bandwidth: 500 GB / month

Or if you have some recommendations, I'll check them out.

Thanks for any help. Also, for those curious, you can actually host a gameserver for relatively cheap with a VPS, but you have to find the right provider policy with the right specs and you have to know linux pretty well (god forbid you get a Windows vps and have to use the WMP trick to get 500 FPS). I'll probably be testing out this guide to speed up the kernel. If anyone has any warnings on using the guide, tell me too.

EDIT: K, no more messing with kernels.
