hey guys,
you don't know me very well if at all, since i'm pretty much a low-div fly on the wall. but i have a proposition!
i recently acquired, thanks to my job, a managed centOS server with cpanel, whm, ~1GB of RAM, 75GB of storage, and 2TB of bandwidth (UL/DL) for free. of course this can be upgraded at any point, but that means it'd be coming out of my pocket. since i really don't have a ton of use for the server right now, and the server's hostname is a tf2 joke (which will be disclosed when i get private WHOIS set up...), i was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping set up and maintain a TF2 wiki *specifically* dedicated to competitive play?
my idea would be to find a couple people, obviously from the community, well-versed in wiki markup and maintaining websites to assist me in maintaining it. the wiki itself would be freely edited by anyone with an account, and COULD also host a dictionary of competitive terms and separate pages for map-specific strategies.
if something like this already exists feel free to point me to it, but if you're interested in starting something like this up, feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

Or you could edit stuff into the official wiki where more people will see it.

i guess we'll see if anyone's interested!

This reminds me of that old article written on ubercharged.net for competitive TF2. It was very helpful for me when I was getting into competitive, so I don't see why the idea of a Wiki for competitive TF2 would be a bad thing or whatever.
If one was made, we could have eXtv to promote it and possibly even try to get them to ask Valve to make a post about it.

when i started in tf2 there were a lot of things i didn't understand, both concepts and terms, that can't really be summarized in the middle of a shoutcast. i think something along these lines, not necessarily hosted by me, would be a really good idea. now, if i DO host this, it's unlikely i'll be able to pay out of pocket for updates if eXtine, sal, or valve mention it and my bandwidth usage and system load go through the roof. so i think that if/when we decide to go forward with this, initially it should be what is essentially a closed beta: only a few users from the community allowed, and if we decide to open it to a broader audience, a way to pay monthly costs for the server.

The worst thing a community can do when it's trying to grow is seperate the competitive and public communities.
The reason TF2 can and will succeed as a competitive title is because the public community plays such a vital role. There is always a massive new pool of players that the competitive side of the game can appeal to. What we need to do is figure out how to pull that audience over, rather than seperate them from the competitive side. Something as simple as a seperate wiki may be a bad idea.

sigma's putting together an updated version of that article

I never understood the CommFT website's wiki's eXistance.
Just contribute to the official wiki by writing very focused articles or create new sections on old articles - Granary *In Competititve Play.

Enigma, can we have a tab on here (or just be able to edit sigma's portion?) that players can edit/add on to?

I think it should be limited to a forum with suggestions, instead of just a wiki that could be freely edited.

Could probably just talk about revisions in the thread that spawns under articles and then sigma/nigma can edit whatever they feel is good enough.

nearly all information that would go into a "comp wiki" would be better formatted in an article on here

have a category on the official wiki that is called competetive.
you know the thing where you can choose weapons, hats, trading etc, make a seventh or replace one with competetive

maybe you know have one of those "competitive player" pages where it's just a whole page dedicated to their accomplishments and stuff, that's a good incentive for people to edit it

The official Team Fortress wiki quietly making competitive pages. They are somewhat hidden and "under development".
They haven't made them official yet but here`s an example:
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Badlands
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Badlands_(competitive)
"Competitive articles are currently in development."
**Edit: The second link doesn't include the "(competitive)" portion of the link so just copy/paste it
