I'm talking like.. 3 complete nutcases. Top prem/invite
Winning ETF2L Open / RGL Newcomer division
3v6ing and slamming noobs
Do you reckon it's possible?
Who could pull it off? What classes would they play?
I mean 6 people... that's a lot of players you know. A lot of damage to do
You gotta consistently win 3v6 fights.... Look out for backcaps... Idk man..... but maybe?
Top players are nuts these days you know
And new players are kinda bad (no hate, we were all new once)
Anyway, I think that would be pretty pog to watch at least. Let me know your thoughts TFTV family

Top NC teams have pretty fair DM but lack clean and proper coordination. You could probably just win off people overextending. Mid fights would be difficult regardless though because of the amount of team pressure.
I'm sure people are thinking of just cheating by using a god tier sniper and locking down the entire map but that's no fun in discussions.
I mean bismallah ran a full time heavy so there's that.

I don't think so, it'd be too easy to just have the newcomer team run a perma heavy and that kind of kills any aggression and minimizes the chances of overextension. If it was 4v6 I'd think top invite/prem players could definitely do it, medic scout scout demo, medic scout soldier demo would both work.

Get one invite med, scout, and demo player vs 6 Newcomers, I think they'd win on DM alone. Or would two invite Scouts be more powerful?

Admittedly, idk what it's like these days but back in the day fresh meat/Archimedes cups were stacked with people that played 6s for years (pugs, lobbies, mixes etc) just no official league seasons. (Fucking nas boi won fresh meat lmao). Afaik open/nc divs have the same admittance rules as the cups so a top open/NC team wouldn't be 6 clueless newcomers, it would still be 6 fairly experienced players that just haven't played official seasons. So yeah, no way to 3v6 that

There was a 5v6, both teams being invite, and the team with 5 players won (Froyotech).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0g7mV5iLG4
Keeping that in mind, I think 4 invite players could maybe win against 6 open players. But they'd have to have ridiculous DM.
But 3 vs 6 is just too much.

Only one way to find out.
froyotech: b4nny, slemnish, and meyy vs. whoever wins Newcomer this season. Best of five. Do it or fear.

There was a pros vs YouTubers 6 v 9 and it wasn't even close.

I think it could be done but it would require very proactive class switching and a lot of planning before hand on what you run and when

Sure but 5 damage dealing classes vs. 8 isn't really comparable to 2 vs. 5
Plus the youtubers had highlander classes, so a useless engie, useless spy, etc.

Thanks for linking that interesting match, I forgot that happened. Low Invite is way, way above the skill level of Newcomer though. That's why I think 4v6 would simply be too easy
And yes lower level players can have decent DM, but I think the biggest difference is in coordination and decision making. Very prone to overextending and feeding. You'd need smart invite/prem players who are capable of exploiting that
The toughest part in my opinion would be that as a team of 3 you can't really sac players, or guard flanks against backcaps.
But uber trades might be advantageous for the smaller team with less people to flash. Making fights messy, focusing down targets (I've noticed top teams have got ridiculously good at focus fire in the last few years). That's why I think it could be possible
Anyway we must consult b4nny for his expert opinion

Gimme habib and highfive and we will take 3rd respectfully

real answer and probably a hot take, i think a team of 3 invite players could do it. If you put b4nny, jay, and pretty much any invite medic together i think they would win. 2 scouts or 1 scout 1 soldier, but i imagine 2 scouts would be better in most scenarios.

You probably need high HP classes if you want a shot at winning. Since there's only 2 heal targets if you run a medic, have a demoman and a shotgun pocket soldier. Decent team HP and you can counter everything that runs at you. if you're running a scout one lucky pipe/rocket sync from the other team and you're 2v6 lol

Only way to know is to try it out. I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to find 3 invite players willing to play

It would have to be the absolute best of the best from invite since OP specifically says "three nutcases, top prem/invite". That lowers the pool a bit for who is considered the best of the best.

funhaver1998Maybe 4, but 3? Not possible.
I enjoy these hypothetical's and agree with this statement more than any other so far. 4 invite players can do it and I don't think it would be difficult at all. However, once you go down to 3 players, the difficulty goes way up IMO.
I don't think 3 players can consistently defend and attack at the same time on different points. The only thing the newcomers would need to do is space out and not take large 6v3 fights. If they simply focused on capping points instead of team fights, it would be too much for 1 player to deal with to stop back caps. (for the most part)
Compare this to using 4 players, the invite guys can easily have 2 players cap a forward point and 2 players defend a back-cap. Rinse and repeat, easy win.
Only 1 player defending a backcap, even against inferior players, can be quite difficult. It's very possible to do but I don't think they succeed every single time.
The biggest problem for the newcomers would probably be capping last. Invite player superior DM, experience & positioning would be too much to overcome. I can't see any scenario where the new guys can consistently outfight and cap last against the top players to win. Maybe get a round or 2 but not win overall.
As far as class composition, the invite team would need mobility more than anything else. It has to be 2 scouts and a medic or 1 soldier, 1 scout & medic. Switching up to demoman in defensive situations would be most effective but anything involving pushing and defending at the same time would need speed above all else.

semi-relevant story time:
last year, me and some irl friends signed up for a collegiate tf2 6s league, we had played a couple seasons of amateur RGL together so we weren't total noobs but we definitely aren't good. we rolled pretty much every other college, until we got to one team (CMU) where exile, toy, and ether were playing together with 3 other random amateur players.
they were offclassing and probably not really trying, but any fight we took was pretty much an insta-loss, even when we would try to focus fire their invite players I would just miss every rocket on their invite scout lol
here's the log, we predictably got rolled even though i dont think their other 3 players had any 6s experience
