My friend, who I've known for 15 years, who lives in the UK had some kind of stroke and his vision is quickly fading. His face is permanently disfigured, and he very likely will go blind.
I want to know how best to help him. Last time I needed help with important decisions, (buying a car,) this communities knowledgeable members stepped up to the plate and shed light on what I needed to do. I need that help again. I need to know how best to help my friend. He can still see (for now) but that is quickly changing. I recommended he get an iphone so he can see if he can get used to using siri, but what else should I tell him?

i guess braille could be helpful to learn and maybe he can practice doing regular stuff with his eyes closed and memorizing his house layout with a cane. if theres nothing to be done to prevent it, i feel like he should try to start learning how to live without sight before he is completely forced to as living without vision can be very difficult if you are unprepared! there are a lot of resources for blind techniques online but idk if you'd want to send them to him if its an emotional topic still. best of luck to him though, that sounds really rough.

Really sorry to hear that, that's awful. Be there for him, that's already helping. Also look into iPhone's Braille Screen Input, it's apparently an efficient way for blind people to type.
Here's a video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ClXNzAe0-E

It’s fascinating to me how many people get up and leave when health problems become a burden for them, physical or mental
Being trapped in something like this can sometimes feel dehumanizing. A taste of normalcy and togetherness would definitely help him
One of my neighbors/best childhood acquaintances who had cancer wanted me to stay away fearing that they would cause too much trouble, but please listen to others here and be a friend. The gift of friendship is priceless. Even if you cannot help the problem directly, the emotional solace of having somebody during a tempestuous time is life changing
