I use no hats mod because it gives me more consistent frames, but I noticed a possible exploit. Whenever anyone in the server changes loadout/class, my game stutters for a moment as it tries unsuccessfully to load the model, and it throws up an error in my console saying the name of the cosmetic it couldn't find. This means that you can tell when the enemy offclasses from anywhere on the map, instantly, just by checking if any cosmetics of a specific class were loaded. I was wondering if this was a known exploit and what should be done about it. I know a similar effect can be achieved with spy's disguise kit, but the no hats method is instant. Should this be considered an exploit?

I hope it doesn't get nohat mod banned since it helps my framerate a lot, but if its start getting exploited then it would be for the better.

Biased, but i think if you have the knowledge of all 8 billion items in this game, what class they're for, and how they're referenced to in the item schema i think u can get away with having a slight advantage.
also cosmetics in general have the habit of just breaking spy disguises agnostic of no hats mod and they're allowed in current whitelist (and nobody complains even in hl), this game is so broken that trying to patch out everything that confers a minor advantage is probably a futile endeavor. i think the approach of identifying shit that is clearly busted (scope removal, spy sound script, hud shadows etc.) and banning that explicitly is fine, and here i would consider this as squarely in the not busted category especially since you should probably be taking off cosmetics on offclasses regardless because of disguise kit.

don't wear hats on sniper and spy
this also prevents a spy (a well established mechanic) from checking for offclasses :D
