That's around $100, I recommend anything from Sennheiser, they are a bit pricey though.

AD700s are great, but they don't block any noise at all. They are anti-noise cancelling.

Please see http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/

ATH-M50s are a decent alternative, bit more bass and less of a spacious soundstage compared to the CAL!s. M50s are less portable than the CAL!s in that they are considerably larger.

I've had my AD700s for a while now (4 or 5 years) and they still sound great but they are open-air and not particularly good at blocking noise. I've knocked them off my desk/rolled over the cord with my chair more times than I can count and they keep on trucking.

The ATH-M50S are right around your price range ($106 on amazon right now) and should block out noise better.

I can confirm they are very noise cancelling. The only things I can hear with these are my dogs barking and the house alarm (this is without any audio playing). The sound quality is very nice as well.

Don't worry, luckily Audio Technica's have a closed version of the AD700's, which are the 700X's:

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-A700-Technica-ATH-A700X-Headphones/dp/B000E9VKUQ/ref=sr_1_32?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1366078600&sr=1-32

I have other Audio Technica products, and generally Audio Technicas have great headphones (Im currently using ATH-ESW9's which are really awesome!).

I don't want to derail this thread, but I just got those about 2 months ago and they seem really quiet. Any idea why? They are so quiet that I am thinking about selling them. If they are just me then fine, if not, I wouldn't buy them again.

They block out a decent amount of sound and are nicely in budget. Not as much bass as some, but very accurate.

Those are open back so unsuitable for his application. Also the Q701s are better for gaming afaik.
