So this has been happening for years and it's really annoying, it doesn't happen too often but when it does it can really fuck you over.
Basically, if you shoot at the precise time the ammo would be loaded into your clip, your reload cancels and resets, nothing is reloaded and you don't shoot anything. I'm not sure if this is a soldier only bug, but I feel like it has happened to me before with the scattergun.
for an example look at this video, I'm clicking when you see me flicking my mouse to the scout and to rocket jump but nothing happens. I am using the ctap script but I remember this happening way way way way before ctaps were even common knowledge.
Here is the demo file for anyone interested: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=17Dt1G1GDIBbgC_ZJFv-eSbiPqgtTFzrf

happens to me all the time. the reload animation just plays again and i've got to wait for another reload cycle

It should either fire or let the reload continue, not cancel the reload

I've noticed this before, can't test it right now but iirc if you tap mouse1 very quickly (probably a 1 tick window) it'll cancel the reload and not shoot anything

I've had it happen as well, although rarely
Impossible to reproduce locally with mouse clicks scripted (~300 clicks per second) and fakejitter/fakelag
I would throw a wild guess that it has to do with client interpolation and the server considering reloading + shooting to be an erroneous state, resetting to default state, which is not reloading and not shooting

I wouldn't say this is the bug because he did manage to get a rocket after the reload animation

Wtf, it shot the rocket to the side (where he aimed during the flick), it made absolutely no noise and no self-damage (it looks close enough though)
Ammo reserve goes from 18 to 19, he picked up an ammo pack and shot so it makes sense
Watch the vid at x0.25 speed
EDIT: he then proceeds to rocket jump, assuming he did not shoot a rocket, and the gun was reloading and empty, preventing the rocket jump
EDIT2: Do you have the demo file @Alfie?
EDIT3: Load up cp_process and type in console
sv_cheats 1; noclip; setpos -788 -2414 590; setang 26 -85 0
This puts you at the almost-exact angle and position when the ghost rocket explodes
-- If you match the position of the explosion (in the frame when the explosion happens, it shows in the bottom left of the screen), the rocket *does* self-damage for about 10

on another note why can't I shoot or reload at all when holding mouse2? as far as I can remember it only happens on soldier

Okay this video might not be the best example because after reviewing the demo (which I should have done first, im sry), I think I just mistimed it. Because of my retarded first flick and no viewmodels I didn't notice the rocket firing, and that threw off my timing for the next one.
Regardless, this is an issue that has happened to me before.

You were the exact person I wanted to investigate this :p
I am jumping, probably crouch jumping when that rocket is exploding, so I'm probably jumping over the semi sphere aoe

i get issues with firing rockets on top of reloading them. sometimes i click and no rockets will fire - can't be the mouse, it's still pretty new.
reload issues too. it might be timing stuff sometimes, but there's definitely a bug somewhere in this game

This is especially noticeable with auto-reload enabled. Have had this happen on a regular basis. However, I don't recall this ever being an issue in the past so I bet valve has messed up again.

When you hold your +attack button while reloading, it never makes sound for yourself when shooting a rocket, but it's only client side as people around you hear the rocket being fired. He was just a hair away from the maximum radius of the blast to deal self-damage. He then proceeds to fail the timing with reloading and doesn't manage to rocket jump (logically). I see nothing abnormal here I don't know what all the fuzz is about ??

So this happens to me a lot and it's very frustrating. I was playing around today and I think I've figured it out: it just seems to happen when you click too fast. Here's a video:

All I was doing was tapping m1 very quickly. Seems like it just cancels the reload but doesn't fire.
