I recently was watching stories of people's smoking history (how they started) and am quite curious how the people of TF.TV started smoking (if you smoke) I would like to read them!
My story:
My dad is a smoker for 35 years (he started when he was 15) and my mom was a smoker for almost that long as well although she has cut down quite a lot. When I was growing up, I really hated them smoking. It was disgusting and bad for their health. Many times I've heard my father tell me that he'll quit but it has never happened. Fast forward to me turning 18. I was in a relationship with this girl for a long time, we shared many experiences together and I lost my virginity to her. But near the end of our relationship, I found out that she was cheating on me with another guy (one of her ex's). A couple days after I found out, she broke up with me due to "incompatibility" issues. Needless to say, I was heartbroken and fell into depression. One day I was hanging out at my friends house and I was talking to him about it and mid-conversation he pulled out his pack of cigs and offered me one. I was hesitant about it but took it and had my first ever smoke. Almost instantly I just felt calm and everything just felt okay with the world. But one turned into two and then into four, then five. At the end of the night, me and him finished his whole pack. I was hooked. I started with Marlboro lights but after a week I switched to cowboy killers (Marlboro reds) and have been smoking for about 3 months until a really close friend of mine who I really liked scolded me so badly and told me to quit. It was hard but after my last cigarette I told myself it was for the better. Fast forward 3 months. One night I found out a good friend of mines died in a car accident on the mainland. He was really close to me and I just couldn't believe it. That night I went to the closest convenience store and bought a pack of reds and smoked the whole pack that night. And boom bam, I was pack on the addiction.
One night my dad just asked if I've ever smoked with any friends before and told him I smoked for a while. Although he wasn't disappointed in me (because that'd be a tad hypocritical, he was sad that I started (He hoped that I'd never follow his path of smoking). But he was somewhat supportive and sometimes he'd buy a pack for me paired with him saying "CUT DOWN PUNK")) My relatives found out and my uncle was really sad because I was the athletic one in the family and we'd use to do sports every week) My aunties don't really care although they told me just to not smoke when they bring their children over). My mom just doesn't care because I was 18 and could make my own decisions.)
Nowadays, I smoke about 4-6 cigarettes a day and switch between American Spirits and Marlboro Reds. If I'm hanging out with friends I may smoke up to 10 or maybe the whole pack if it's an all-nigther out in the town or at a friends house.

It started with people offering me cigarettes at parties. I might smoke half a pack when I'm drinking. I sometimes smoke between classes or during a walk home but I can go for weeks without smoking. Get an e-cig.

I don't smoke. I had my first stick at 5 years old as a prank by my dad in front of his friends. I took a puff and choked on it. Dad's friends proceeded to laugh and I swore off smokes from then.
After reading your story, I look at smokers differently now. Bit more compassion for them and what they are escaping, bit less disgusted.

Yeah, there are people out there that just smoke because it's cool but some of us have a reason and we just smoke to forget about it or sometimes it's just to feel happy again and remember all the good things sometimes.
I'm glad my story changed your perspectives though! Some smokers don't deserve the hate they get

I started smoking last year. Mainly due to high stress, and that little 3 minute break inhaling that smoke settled me down. I started out on 100's but have went down to shorts. I also average 3 or 4 cigs a day. On some nights, out with pals, I can blow through a pack or 2. Sometimes I'll go days without it, and when I finally light one, it disgust me.

Me and some friends started a metalcore band when we were in 10th grade, and playing gigs in smoky bars only makes impressionable high schoolers want to smoke. I'll be a senior in college next semester, and I'm proud to say that I've largely kicked the habit. It's just when I drink that my self-control goes to naught :(

My uncle died of lung cancer so my dad would kill me if I ever started smoking.

Yea, I've met plenty of people that smoked. They have a special bond when they smoke together.

ComangliaMy story on smoking tobacco, starts with weed. Friends and I used to buy cheap cigars and take out the tobacco and use the paper for blunts. One day we decided to actually smoke one of the cigars and the taste was pretty enjoyable, and I actually understood I wasn't supposed to breath cigar smoke in. I know prefer Bold slightly Spicy cigars, I smoke maybe once or twice a month.
Sophomore or Junior year in high scool about 3 years ago.
i believe those are called cigarillos. those are nice when you're high.

You know what I got for Christmas? Oh, it was a banner fucking year at the old Bender family. I got a carton of cigarettes. The old man grabbed me and said, "Hey, smoke up Johnny."

I've never had the desire to smoke anything.
I've never had the desire to smoke anything.
13 years ago I was 17, and working in the front end of a restaurant that had an hour+ wait at the door the entire summer. The only way to get a break was to have a smoke, so low and behold I tried one. It was relaxing in the middle of a high stress place, and they were nice to unwind after work. It escalated slowly over a few years to 12+ per day. I fired one up every time I started my car, had a coffee, took a break at work, waited for anything, woke up, had a beer, finished dinner, 1/2 smoke between scrims, before bed, etc. I never smoked in my house or else holy shit.
Attempted to quit numerous times, sometimes lasting up to 6 months, and always got sucked back in by bumming a drag, or a smoke when I was out drinking... One thing would lead to another, and I'd look for smokes to mooch or buy a few off a friend, and I'd always end up giving in and buying a pack and there I was right back on it.
Valentines day 2012 I decided to try quitting again, but NEVER give in to the temptation for even a single drag. Went cold turkey, and felt high as fuck for a few days due to physical withdrawal, but never was angry or anything. Avoided all alcohol for 2 weeks, fought the urge to buy a pack, and kept really busy for a while. It's been a total success thus far, and I have no problem hanging out with smokers as I finally realized I CANNOT just have one drag. It's either don't smoke, or go back to over 10/day for me, and fuck that shit. I am done, and feel waaaaaaaaay better for it.
Smoking shouldn't be something you do all your life, so start thinking about quitting now.

Dude, props to you. It takes a strong person for that but we can all achieve it if we really want it. Everyone, take example
